Attending: Me, A, Kz, H, M, Co, Ma. Sensei instructing.
Small class today, but that's okay. :V
Started with uchi makikomi; focused on getting the technique right. Sensei emphasized shoulder control - getting part of the shoulder under your arm if you can. Also, foot placement - getting your foot on the outside of your opponent's foot (right side), as close as possible. The overall effect is very destabilizing. This throw also puts you in a good position to go into a kesa-gatame hold at the finish.
After that, we did a grip-breaking exercise, but different from the usual. Scenario: You both have two sleeves. To break their grip on your right hand, quickly bring your right hand toward the left, crossing over the left, as if to do makikomi. At this point, either they'll let go and you will be able to grab their lapel, or you will be well-positioned for a throw. (Or possibly they will just be unbalanced enough to go down without you moving to do a specific throw.)
And after that we combined them, and specifically used makikomi for gripbreaking purposes.
Alternately, you can do sode-tsurikomi-goshi; which throw will work better depends on how your opponent's hands are placed on your sleeves, because that will determine what kind of movements you have room to do.
Anyway. Monday's class was cancelled; this week it's only Tuesday and Thursday's classes. It's possible that I will have to skip Thursday due to a scheduling conflict. Fortunately, next week will be regular schedule.
