Just finished Chuck Tingle's Camp Damascus.

It's a supernatural horror centred around dealing with the aftermath of evangelical anti-gay conversion therapy. And reversing it.

When I first heard the premise, I wasn't so sure whether it'd be my thing - but I was sucked in right away, so there is that. I really enjoyed the point-of-view character's narrative voice.

The horror is pretty creepy! Both the supernatural horror and the, well, more mundane real-life kind of horror. Brr.

I really enjoyed Rose, the main character, a lot. And those close to her, who come into the picture later in the book. I find myself wishing to spend more time with all of them; it's not really the kind of book that'd call for a sequel, though. (Fanfiction, maybe.)

Enjoyed it! Worth reading, I think. It definitely made me want to read more of Chuck Tingle's horror works.

I enjoyed Tingle's horror novella Straight. I'm going to read Camp Damascus soon-ish -- I'm trying to read as many sffh works from 2023 as posible, since I can nominate stuff for the Hugos lol (recs welcome!)

That one's eligible for a Hugo, IIRC!
It is! For some reason I thought it came out in 2022. Thank you <3

I'm definitely going to have to check it out, it sounds interesting! ... but man, my TBR pile is hideous. ;______;
