Dec. 4th, 2023 10:07 pmToday was hella busy. Normally, on the days when I don't have to do physio, I'll do a little walk - only a half hour, slow speed (very slow). But I got home late, so I was stuck doing stuff in my room.
A bit of yoga today, and also a bit of other stuff. First time trying bicep curls; in some ways, it's as easy as it looks, and in other ways it's kind of challenging. Anyway, I'm glad I tried that one - will be experimenting more in the future. Also did some floor press (and have been doing so). I'm not so sure about that one - I think my form is off. Will need to investigate further when I have more time. ...Regardless, I'm glad that I'm getting additional use out of those dumbbells that I bought for physio.
I was feeling very confident, so I practiced setups for seoinage and osoto-gari. It's a lot harder to do solo than with a partner, obviously, but T-sensei taught us a few drills that were helpful. There's one where you use a marking on the floor as a guide for your foot placement for the turn-in; I guestimated this time, but next time I'll put some washi tape down and used that. And then there's another version where you brace yourself against a wall and do variations of the right and left turn-ins until you're exhausted, basically.
I've really missed those movements - it felt good to get back to them again, even if it's in solo drill form. I was so out of breath, though, it's ridiculous. This is not acceptable! So I guess I'm, uh, going to have to continue doing that until I'm back in class again.
No pain in the foot, which doesn't surprise me, because the movements required for those drills don't require positioning that would aggravate the injury.
I feel like both speedwalking and running at this point is still a no (which does concern me about the possibility of getting back to class in January - if I can't do the running for the warmup, that's a problem). BUT the setup drills seem like they'll be a good option for more intense cardio in the meantime. Going to ease into it, obviously, but yeah.
I'm still feeling bummed about this whole thing, but like, might as well make the best of it in the meantime.
