I remember that when I read Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice, I found myself wanting... more? It's been a while, but from what I remember, I found the ending a little abrupt. I wanted to know what happens next.
So.
Turns out a sequel is coming out in October! It's called Moon of the Turning Leaves*.
I'm looking forward to this. The library will most likely get it, so I suppose I'll wait a while. Maybe I'll re-read Crusted Snow first - it's not very long.
I can't quite remember specifically why I enjoyed Crusted Snow. I think it's partly the writing style (IIRC it was kind of sparse?) and also seeing a genre that I like from a direction that we don't usually see. ...If I remember right, I was also still face-deep in SSSS fandom at the time, so I was still in the mood for "post-apocalyptic stories set in atypical locations, especially cold rural ones".
...Anyway, I liked the book enough that I got instantly excited on hearing there'll be another, so there's that. :V Apparently the sequel is set ten years after the first book, so I guess there'll be lots of worldbuilding going on rather than an immediate answer to "what happens next", but who knows.
