Judo adventures - class 20
Nov. 11th, 2022 12:26 amToday was Me, K-kun, J, S, and L, with T-sensei instructing.
I asked T-sensei about the name for the choke that we did last class, but he actually wasn't sure what that one is called. Ah, well. However! L suggested an app that he found useful for reference, so I'll have to take a look at that when I have a moment. It'll likely be helpful!
I was alternating pairing off with J and K-kun today. Awkward with three people, but we managed. I just wish it had been the long class, rather than the short class - it'd have been easier for everyone to get enough time that way.
Can't remember everything we did today (brain is fuzzy). A lot of it was new stuff, so it'll take a while before I properly grasp it. We did some variations of rolling someone over to bring them into a choke; one version was when your opponent's on all fours, you reach underneath their head with one hand, go over them and grab their trousers with the opposite hand, and then roll them over to bring them in for a choke. Very fun, looked tricky but I was able to get the hang of it eventually. (Will have to look this up later.)
After those, we worked on learning a new throw. This one was osoto-makikomi - basically, you go in for the throw a la osotogari, but you fall with your opponent, end up on top of them with your body wrapped around them, and apply pressure to keep them there. We were just learning the steps, so going about it very slowly, but it was still fun.
"Like this?"
"Not quite, you're forgetting to put on the pressure."
"Oh, right. Like this?"
"Oof - yes!"
T-sensei says we might get out the crash mats next class and practice this one properly. Hopefully that'll happen! We probably don't really need the crash mats at this point, buuuut it does make it a bit easier when you're learning a new throw.
