Judo adventures - Class 17
Nov. 1st, 2022 10:23 pmSensei was sick today, so T-sensei headed the class today.
It was me, K-chan, K, J, and S. V was here as assistant and partnered with S, so we were able to have good numbers.
T-sensei taught us a new way of practicing forward and backward breakfalls - you use a partner, and basically guide yourself over their body in order to go into the roll. I found it kind of tricky, I dunno' - might need more practice with that.
Anyway, today was practicing form for throwing. Just practice, not following through - we didn't pull out the crash mats. K-chan is slowly getting the hang of it, I think, though she still needs more practice. She'll get more confident eventually, once she gets more familiar with the movements. She seems worried about how she doesn't have much strength, but honestly, it's more about leverage and balance! There were several moments where she could have done a full throw with me if she'd followed through.
Then I did randori with her - we started out upright, but after she took a big splat of a fall, we switched to ground. She got me pinned pretty good a couple of times! I think I'm still a bit weak from that cold, because I was totally exhausted by the end of it and could hardly move. Lots of fun, though.
Had a nice little chat with J after class. I told him that he owes me a round of randori, since I didn't get a chance with him today. ;p Next time.
