Anne Rice passed away yesterday.

I didn't realize that she was 80 years old. And I guess part of me kind of assumed she'd go on forever.

Vittorio the Vampire was the first of her novels that I read, and it made quite an impression. Somehow, it was exactly what I needed at exactly the right time.

I didn't actually get around to reading Interview until quite a while after that - can't remember why, but it might just be because it was constantly checked out from the library.

Rice and her work were certainly unique (in, uh, more ways than one). She certainly had a really good run. I'm tempted to pull Vittorio off the shelf and give it a re-read for old time's sake.

That was a shock to see - she felt like such a fixture.

I read Interview for a class on vampires in media - I can really only remember reading that and the original Dracula. It had its flaws, but boy if those gay vampires and poor Claudia didn't make an impression on me.

Same. :( I read several of her vampire books at just the right age for them to make a huge impression, and just - dang.
