Finished reading: It Devours! by Joseph Fink & Jeffrey Cranor. One of the Welcome to Night Vale novels. This one is primarily about the Smiling God. It's been ages since I listened to any Night Vale, and I guess I kind of missed it, hence picking this up. It's set after the period where I dropped the series - this one takes place after Carlos returned from wandering around in the desert (and he has a relatively sizeable part in the book). It's very very typical WTNV, so if you aren't into the podcast, you won't like this one, but if you do like it, it's more of the same. Kind of makes me want to catch up on all the stuff I missed.
Currently reading: War of the Foxes by Richard Siken. I have a vague notion that this poet's work is popular with certain subsets of fandom, but so far I'm not impressed. The vibe in this volume calls to mind some poems I wrote circa '07-'08, and I don't mean that positively. He does have a few neat turns of phrase, though, so this won't be a DNF, and I might try a different collection of his work in the future (suggestions welcome).
Also currently reading: Mountain Man: 446 Mountains, Six Months, One Record-Breaking Adventure by James Forrest. It's what it says on the tin - about a guy who peak-bagged all of the mountains in England and Wales in a very short amount of time; part travelogue and part hiking/adventure book. The beginning was kind of tedious, but after he actually started on his journey, I found I was enjoying reading about his adventures/misadventures. It sounds kind of fun, leaving aside the crazy-ass time limit.
Reading next: I dunno'. Here's what I have out from the library -
+ The North Water by Ian McGuire. Age of sail, drama on a whaling vessel in the arctic. A tv adaptation of it is coming out soon.
+ Shadow Ridge by M. E. Browning. Looks like another interchangeable murder mystery.
+ Ghost Child of the Atalanta Bloom by Rebecca Aronson. Poetry.
+ Thrust by Heather Derr-Smith. Poetry.
+ Easy Math by Lauren Sharpio. Poetry.
+ Night Became Years by Jason Stefanik. Poetry, but this one is Canadian.
