More adventures with learning Norwegian
Jan. 12th, 2020 01:27 pmNorwegian is frying my brain right now.
Okay, so. With the word å henge, to hang (like, hanging something up).
Han henger bildet på veggen.
He hangs the picture on the wall.
Simple past for transitive is hengte. Used for describing the past action of hanging something.
Han hengte bildet på veggen.
He hung the picture on the wall.
Simple past for intransitive is hang. Used for when something is just hanging there in past tense and nothing was being done to it.
Bildet hang på veggen.
The picture hung on the wall.
These should be pretty straightforward, but I keep forgetting which is which when it comes to this particular word. Whyyyy.
...Admittedly, I mix up the past form of hang in English too sometimes (hung vs hanged), so at least I'm consistent. But I've been working on things with this word and it annoys me that I keep getting it wrong, so hopefully writing it down like this will help. ;p
