yuuagoSo, when I was working on that Ned/Ro fic for FTH, I ended up having to rewrite it, because my first draft of it totally didn't work. And by rewrite it I mean completely start over from scratch, rather than do a shitload of edits. The finished version has a lot of scenes that weren't in the first draft, and the first version has ones that didn't make it into the final. And even the parts that are the same on the surface read very differently between versions.
Now that I'm reading the first draft over, I... really like it! The character voice, atmosphere, and scene choices were all wrong for the story that I wanted to tell, but what's down on paper is actually pretty good. So, I'm going to rework it into an original story. :D I can never get enough of vampire/victim premise, anyway. 8) I already have a name for the vampire, so I just need a name for the Dutch protagonist and I'll be set to beat it into shape.
Aside from that, I'm currently really enjoying the Nor/Ro thing I'm working on ("I thought it was just a booty call, but oops, we actually have feelings for each other"). It feels really nice to just write something for... me? And much like a lot of things, once I'm finished handwriting and typing this up, it'll probably get thrown into the WIP folder for over a year. But that's all right. The writing is the fun part, not the editing.
It just feels good to work on something and not have to worry about whether it's garbage or not, since it's only for myself. ...And a lot of the stuff that I've worked on for myself in the past couple of years, including things that are still waiting to be edited, are things that were written because the stuff that I wanted to read just didn't exist at all.
That said, I'm already looking forward to next year's FTH, haha. I bought some cute notebooks in Victoria to use for handwriting the drafts. ;) Since I managed to do 3 fics this year, I think I'll offer 3 fic slots next year too. Why the hell not. :D
