Reading Wednesday

Finished reading: The Man Who Lived With a Giant: Stories from Johnny Neyelle, Dene Elder. Edited by Alanna Fletcher & Morris Neyelle. This collection is a mix of personal stories and traditional Sahtu Dene stories. They were put together with care, and it shows. Has a similar feel to George Blondin's stories, but I can't say whether I prefer one or the other - both are very good storytellers, and the stories they tell are very different, though some of the same cultural figures show up in the traditional stories.

Currently reading: For King and Kanata: Canadian Indians and the First World War by Timothy C. Winegard. Interesting, though a little dry at times. Might poke around later on to see if I can find more on this topic. Right from the beginning of the war, the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing with regard to policies related to enlistment of FN soldiers... Which is not that surprising, I guess.

Reading next: The Death of Bernadette Lefthand by Ron Querry. Might get to this one tomorrow.

Library holds: Picking these up on the weekend -

- Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse. Post-apoc novel from a Navajo perspective. Sounds interesting. Saw some discussion of it on DW; it was enough to make me curious.

-Vancouver Noir. Edited by Sam Wiebe. Collection of dark crime short stories set in Vancouver. This was on my Goodreads to-read list for some reason...? I have no idea where I originally heard of it, but it fits my interests, haha.
