I really could do without "the villain was gay" asspulls at the end of the book.

Like, I don't mind gay villains per se, but it's got to be like... something that's just kind of there all along, as an actual part of their story, rather than revealed toward the end of the novel as part of their motive for committing their crimes/acts of villainy/whatever.

It's doubly annoying when it's in a novel that I was finding pretty engaging up until that point, and SUDDENLY it's like "...Oh. This again."

In this one, I'm pretty sure it's meant to make him more sympathetic. I can see where the author might have been going with that. But it's still just exhausting.

Tl;dr I finished reading The Wolf and the Watchman by Niklas Natt och Dag and I'm a kind of annoyed by some things the author incorporated. ...Not sure if this is enough to turn me off his work entirely, especially if in the future he writes more historical fiction, but for the moment I'm pretty disgruntled.
