Adventures in learning Norwegian
Apr. 30th, 2019 07:00 pmI'm officially 50% of the way through the Norwegian course on Duolingo. :) While it's really only useful for vocabulary drills, it still feels kind of nice to see those circles filled out.
Also! I figured out how to use PressReader, which I have access to through my library. Which means I now have easy access to a whole bunch of Norwegian newspapers, among other things. I'm nowhere near good enough with it to be able to read these things easily, of course. But I can generally puzzle out the meaning of at least a few sentences at a time, even if I have to look some of the words up. (Or a lot of words. Most of the words, sometimes.)
It will be pretty good practice, I think. The idea of looking for actual reading material in Norwegian kind of exhausts me, but if you shove a headline under my nose, I'll at least make an attempt at reading it. And so far it's certainly more of a practical challenge than Duolingo vocab drills.

Date: 2019-05-01 01:31 am (UTC)And it gives me access to a ton of Canadian newspapers too, which is pretty awesome. Maybe I'll start reading them again. (Or... maybe not, since the news is so depressing these days, but. I COULD. If I wanted to.)
