That feeling when you're brainstorming a story, but then you realize that you don't know what the clothes the characters are wearing would look like, so you spend more time than you anticipated researching 17th-century western European fashion.

This was supposed to just be a quick and dirty ficlet. But the result is:
-0 words written
-1.5 hours distracted
-I now know more than I ever expected to know about what dudes were wearing in the 1650s.

Not that I'm complaining, exactly, it's just not how I intended to spend this bit of the evening.

Welcome to life as an artist :D Even the most mundane scenes will trigger stuff like that. It's not just period clothing (though that's a big one) but also functional armor and weapons, sail ships, bikes, modern family home kitchens, tropical vegetation, telescopes, airports, tennis courts... and these are just things I've run into myself and can remember. At least with writing you can say, for instance, it's 1800 London, describe the weather, smells and sounds in a short paragraph and let the reader's mind fill in the blanks, which it will do pretty well. But with art you have to draw every little thing, and draw it as correctly as possible. And people don't understand why you spend so much time researching. (you could say I'm Triggered :'D )
