[DWGL] 14 + 15 - Commentary
Aug. 6th, 2018 09:16 pmOh boy. So, earlier, I didn't get around to writing commentary on episode 14 of Di Wang Gong Lüe; and now episode 15 is out too, so this will be a double entry.
Ep 14 thoughts follow. You can view the episode here.
Ooh, spying! Infiltrating things! Seems to be quite a thing that Duan Baiyue does well, though I must say I don't find his disguise very convincing. (One would think he'd remove his very-identifiable hair ornament at least?!)
Anyway, I like that Chu Yuan has taken to just... leaving his window open, because Duan Baiyue doesn't like to use the door. How romantic. ;) Oh, these dorks. And I love the way Chu Yuan batted his hand away from those Secret Documents... xD
Now, the "Phantom Wooden Box"... these sound like quite a weapon. Banned and only existing in stories (until now)! Poisoned needles and venomous insects! (Why does it always come down to poison in this series? Haha.) But the sheer volume that is being made of these now... yikes. I had missed this on first watch of this episode, but Chu Yuan brings up the idea that it is possible the boxes will be used for military purpose - by enemy states. Double yikes!
So, Lord Xu. The Heaven Temple Sect: Great at extortion, y/y? That sure is one hell of a golden mountain. What are they going to do with all that cash?! Grandmaster Lan must have some kind of plan....
"Brother, you'd better investigate this by yourself." Saslkdjfkd WELL I don't blame Yao-er for being on edge at all, considering Lan Ji is somewhere around, but I do so love this little scene with him and his brother. xD Sorry kid, you're helping Duan Baiyue with this whether you want to or not.
Ah, so we have a name for Lan Ji's subordinate! Cai Tian. At least I have something to call her now. ...Man, Grandmaster Lan is so pretty. (And ngl, I kind of halfassed ship those two, WHY NOT.)
The framing of the scene where Chu Yuan visits Duan Baiyue at night to drink with him - wow, it's done in such a romantic way. Especially that brief moment we get where they're just shown as shadows in front of the screen. I really like the way this is done. I wonder how this scene comes across in the novel...
"Oh, I'll just disguise myself as Wei Ziyi and ask Lan Ji about this..." Duan Baiyue, you are going to do WHAT? Eesh, this guy is too reckless. Now I'm curious about who this Wei Ziyi guy actually is, though; I don't think he would be brought up in such a way if he weren't to come up again later (perhaps even in the flesh).
...Rrrreally curious as to how this is all going to go. WELL, I guess I'll find out soon!
As an aside, one could easily pretend that this meeting between Chu Yuan and Duan Baiyue took a different and more personal direction after all their talk of planning and so on. I'M JUST SAYING. I can't get over all the... you know, romantic framing of this scene.
And episode 15 thoughts follow below. You can view the episode here.
Oh boy, Duan Baiyue in his Wei Ziyi disguise sure is something. HE LOOKS... REALLY COOL. Also, love the costume Lan Ji is wearing in his scene with her. (Well, it's the same one from the previous episode, but we get a better look at it here.) She's so pretty...
....And apparently she wants to marry this Wei Ziyi guy. Well, that explains a few things. (Don't get yourself in a dangerous situation, Duan Baiyue, please.) All things considered, I guess this dude must be pretty notorious. But if Baiyue is looking to get information from her, I suppose such a disguise is not such a bad decision, if he can pull this off.
"All he thinks about is money" - Having second thoughts about becoming involved with him, Grandmaster?
AND... Exit Lan Ji, pursued by Duan Baiyue. WE STILL DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HER PLAN IS. Hopefully we'll find out in next episode? I feel like there should be enough information here for me to guess at what her big plot is for all of these elders that she has kidnapped, but I just plain can't put it together. Hopefully we will find out, though.
Duan Baiyue's plan to get hold of one of the elders was clever. Hopefully Duan Nian will be able to find out some useful information from that guy. Speaking of which, it's a good thing he had Duan Nian around; this is one mission that I don't think Yao-er would willingly have helped with. Too close proximity to Lan Ji. xD
...This episode feels as if it was even shorter than usual; perhaps because of the flashback at the beginning to the conversation with Chu Yuan re: the disguise. Hmm.
I wish I didn't have to wait for the next episode! Ah, well. :V
