Finished reading: Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson. This is her first YA novel; contains indigenous beliefs, crazy family dynamics, and a kid who isn't exactly human. I liked her novels for adult audiences (Blood Sports and Traplines) so I figured I'd like this one - and I did, but not quite as much. Might be because I'm way outside the target audience, heh. Still, I really like the protagonist - he has a lot on his plate, but he has a good heart, too. I'm glad that someone mentioned to me that this is part of a trilogy, because if it had been a standalone the ending would've been hella unsatisfying.

Currently reading: Trans Like Me: Conversations For All of Us by C N Lester. The author is a genderqueer individual from the UK. The book's basically a discussion of the various conversations to be had around re: gender and trans stuff. Some seem to be labeling it a memoir, because it includes some discussion of the author's own experiences with the subject, but I'm unsure if I would categorize it that way. Anyway, it's written in a very clear and accessible way - that's always something I appreciate in works dealing with LGBT subjects.

Reading next: Paper Teeth by Lauralyn Chow. Interconnected short stories about a Canadian-Chinese family living in Edmonton, Alberta. :) Sounds good to me!

Reading some time in the future: Prairie Fairies: A History of Queer Communities and People in Western Canada by Valerie J. Korinek. Stumbled across this title; seems relevant to my interests for obvious reasons.... I've put in a suggestion to the local library to add it to their collection, and hopefully they'll be able to do that. If they can't, I guess I'll ILL it, but hopefully it will be possible. Currently, our library's LGBT2QA nonfiction consists of more works about these issues in the USA than in Canada; it would be nice to be able to reverse that a little.
