✿ I've driven my car a grand total of 4 times, and the paint already has chips in it. Fucking hell. AND ALSO a big scrape on the front bumper, but that was entirely my own fault because I pulled up too far and scratched the front of it on the rear of my dad's truck... sigh. Going to have to see about getting touchup paint for that particular bit, at least.

✿ Reading: I finished Part 1 of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and now I've put in an ILL for Part 2. Looking forward to it, though it'll take quite a while for it to get here. The relationship between certain characters was not what I had expected based on my impressions formed from the Red Cliff film, and now I find myself wondering if the full version of the film keeps something closer to the book's dynamic... I had to watch the slice-and-diced version because that was all the library had. Hmm. :Va

✿ Note to self: Get working on that Parallels exchange fic. I have plenty of notes, and I know where the story should go; I just need to write it. (Ideally with plenty of time to throw it at somebody to beta.)

✿ Multifandom Drabble Exchange was lovely! And I received several lovely fics! I'll do a separate post about that later. I think that once Parallels is over, I'll be done with exchanges for the rest of the year, but we'll see.

✿ Received a mail from someone I thought I'd lost contact with... It's nice. :) I'm happy about this. <3 Sometimes people just drop off the map and I find myself wondering whether or not they're doing okay. I feel like if somebody wanted to get hold of me, it'd be pretty easy, but when I'm contacting other people... It's not quite as much. Sometimes.

Honestly to me it just seems to be the dumbest thing that cars get scratched and dented so easily yet there's no alternative to that shiny coat of paint and polish :|

Re: RoTK, which relationship was not what you expected? Just curious, because I consume quite a lot of Three Kingdoms related stuff, each with their own interpretations and spin on history, though I don't really keep track of things.

WELL... In the international cut of Red Cliff (which takes the two films and splices them into one movie) Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang - they seem extremely friendly with each other, and in fact there's pretty much no hint that one might dislike the other or see him as a threat; just lots of mutual respect and the building of what's obviously a friendship. They have mad chemistry and honestly in that film I shipped it like burning, and was pretty much prepared to do the same with RoTK. xD

And then of course their relationship in the book is nnnnot like that at all, and I didn't anticipate this because I know very little about the period and looked up nothing before reading the source novel. Author notes in fanfiction had hinted to me that they don't get along as well in source as they did in the movie, but I was Not Prepared for the whole "I must destroy this guy" thing. Though their book dynamic is certainly interesting and I still kind of ship it, just in a hatesex kind of way, haha.

[Edit] Oh and also, I didn't expect as much chemistry between Kongming and Liu Bei, based on film impressions - but that's because they don't have a lot of scenes together in (the cut version of) Red Cliff, and I didn't find their relationship in the scenes that they did have to be very compelling. But after reading through the book, I am so totally there for that.

Ah, I see. Actually I've not read the entire book though I've read bits and pieces from it. I've watched the two-parter version of the movie, and yes to all that mad chemistry and really interesting layers to what they mean to each other. Three Kingdoms and all the derivative works is like a huge sandpit sometimes, every time I dive in I end up going 'huh I never thought of them before but I definitely see it now' :D

It's just... so... shippy? That scene where they're playing music together was just... oh my god. And those moments where they're standing Extremely Close for No Particular Reason??? I just want to shove them together and go NOW KISS.
