[DWGL] 08 - Thoughts + commentary

yuuagoHow much of my id can you cram into the span of 13 minutes? Well, I'm not entirely sure, but ep 08 of Di Wang Gong Lüe sure does hit a lot of the right notes. :D

Since this episode starts with a flashback, I was prepared to be a little bit bored. The episodes are so short already, so using that kind of fill-in seemed like a bad sign. BUT, it turns out I needn't have worried; I was pleasantly surprised with the way things went. ;)
It looks like the Liu rebellion has taken a turn that Chu Yuan didn't expect. [/bites nails] He handled it well, though! As much as is possible, considering everything - I figured that guy from a couple of episodes back looked kind of sketchy, but I didn't suspect that he'd turn to rebellion, either. But I wonder quite how Chu Yuan is going to get out of this.
And AHHH Ye Jin and Old Master on the roof! They seem to have some kind of plan, or at least Ye Jin does. Hopefully it's something that will actually work. And maybe it'll mean that we get Ye Jin and Chu Yuan face to face? I would love that.
I continue to love Duan Baiyue and Yao-er's relationship. Even in such a tense moment, something about the way they get along - I just really love it. I wonder if Yao-er is going to follow him, even though he's exhausted. He did seem really bothered about being left behind, and I don't think it's just stress about being on his own - I think he could handle being on his own for a while if necessary. More like, I have the impression that he wants to give his brother any support that he can, even if he'd much rather get some rest... but I could just be reading too much into it. ;)
Wow, Ye Jin is surprisingly badass! Holy chloroform, Batman. Ahhh, he and Old Master are putting their plan into action!~
"By midnight tonight, there will be people here to rescue us." WELL, it sure looks like that's going to happen. xD Though it certainly doesn't look like it's unfolding the way Chu Yuan expected. He sure sounds cool as a cucumber, but man, what a nervous situation.
And here's someone to the rescue - and it isn't at all who the emperor was waiting for. ;)

-"Your Highness the Ninth, how could you be here?" Excuse me but what. WHAT. ... I am going to need more information about this.
WELL, I'm assuming this means that Ye Jin and Chu Yuan are related in some way. Brothers of some sort, I guess? On the one hand, kind of disappointing, considering I was kind of shipping it a little (sometimes I don't mind that sort of thing, but ehhh, not for this canon). On the other hand, it gives a different angle to their relations, and provides an interesting contrast to the Duan brothers, who get along so well. But, we'll have to see.
While I was drafting this, Subtitle Nonny confirmed/clarified the relation - "The ninth son of the previous emperor, and one of at least eight brothers of Chu Yuan". So, there we are. Knowing that they are related leaves me with so many questions, and it kills me that I'm going to need to wait to find out more information about their relationship! I find it interesting that the prickliness seems to only go in one direction - Ye Jin is so hostile! Whereas Chu Yuan isn't at all, just very surprised to see him. Well, moving on --
And now trouble comes and... ohh dear, this rescue mission isn't going as well as they'd hoped. D: DUAN BAIYUE, PLEASE GET THERE FAST. However, I will say: Ahhh, Chu Yuan! So brave! I love that he threw himself in front of Si Xi in order to protect him. Quite a reckless move (dude, you're the emperor) but. I just. *_*!!! Ah, the more I see of Chu Yuan, the more I love him!!
Seriously, though, a dude who cares so much about his subordinates that he'd throw himself in front of a poisoned blade for them = A++. Good show, Chu Yuan. Also, this bit of bravery means we get to see some Chu Yuan whump, which is something I hadn't known I wanted, but now that we have it, it's just -- [/chefkiss!]
But, yes, the more I see of him, the more I love him.

Also I guess I also am starting to like Old Master, sketchy guy though he is, because those are some serious badass moves he's got there. :D :D
Ah, it looks like Duan Baiyue arrived too late to discover what happened. Oh dear. (And we are treated to flashback of moments related to him and Chu Yuan... and pff, that "Is it for your sweetheart?" line from Yao-er. YES, THAT PEARL IS FOR HIS SWEETHEART, HOW PERCEPTIVE OF YOU.)
Wait a minute, a demon butterfly that hangs around crypts? I... well, okay, I guess we'll just roll with that, it isn't as if it's the weirdest thing that has happened so far. If it leads the way to Chu Yuan, then I'll forgive any kind of weirdness.
<3 <3 And now Duan Baiyue is reunited with Chu Yuan and his Old Master, too... <3 "The Emperor of Chu was in trouble. I reckoned that you would definitely come." :') YOU ARE CORRECT, MY GOOD SIR.
Ahhhh I just have so many fuzzy feels about moment... <3 <3 I'm just going to sit here and wallow in them for a minute or so.
Not even gonna lie, the Chu Yuan whump in this moment is EXCELLENT. Sure, Ye Jin did the best he could to patch him up quickly, but it's so obviously painful and Chu Yuan is just suffering like a champ. Yesss, excellent. And of course, Duan Baiyue, please do continue to show such heartful concern for yoursweetheart emperor. 8) Yes. But, let's get back to the situation at hand:

Cave entrance blocked, Old Master is freshly-resurrected and unable to fight to his full extent, Duan Baiyue's powers would apparently hurt him if he uses them... Or, as Old Master put it, "If you use the Bodhi Heart Sutra, it will erode your body, and then -" ...whatever that means. Nothing good, at least. щ(◉Д◉щ) Crap, how are we going to get out of this one? Chu Yuan says that he has some troops coming, but who knows how long they would take to arrive. If Duan Yao followed his brother, then he might be able to attack from behind, probably with a similar summoning to what he used before. But... I'm just ASSUMING he followed; there's no guarantee that he actually did. So --
Oh fuck, Duan Baiyue is going to do it, isn't he.
On the one hand: щ(✧◡✧щ) [/chinhands] [/forever]
On the other hand: D: DUDE, NO
On the third hand: WELL the situation IS pretty dire, so I can't blame him for taking such a route, really.
On the fourth hand: Duan Baiyue is totally prepared to endure harm to himself in order to save Chu Yuan, and this is shippy as fuck. I am just. Going to flop down here and drink all this up, holy shit.
I don't know if I can wait until next week, man. This one was so good to me. :D
