Random braindump, just because~

I was poking around for references to the series, and somehow came across... way more comparisons to Nirvana in Fire than expected! Or rather comparisons between DWGL characters and NiF characters, mostly. Duan Baiyue - Mei Changsu; Chu Yuan - Xiao Jingyan; Duan Yao - Fei Liu. Obviously.

At and first I was like "Nooo, not really" but THEN AGAIN I did sort of compare Duan Baiyue to Mei Changsu in my last post about this canon, didn't I....

Giving it some thought, the character type overlap does fit, I suppose, at least in the most basic templates. Except it's flipped a little bit; Jingyan is the warrior role in Nif, but Chu Yuan seems to be the scholar role here - the similarity is that they are both the rulers, while MCS and Duan Baiyue are their supporters. But I don't really have enough information right now to say how similar they actually are. The people who were making these comparisons have probably read the DWGL novel, I would assume. xD

Ah, anyway. Better not to overanalyze silly shitposts. ;p

At this point I find myself 100% more interested in Duan Baiyue's relations with Yao-er than his relationship with Chu Yuan. Which isn't what I expected, but there we are. I guess it makes sense since Duan Yao has more screentime than Chu Yuan right now. Regardless, I would happily watch a whole series of brotherly banter with the Duan brothers. xD But I'm sure we'll get plenty of that, so.

Though, thinking about Chu Yuan, I suddenly remember that scene in which they planted the seed for the plum tree... Duan Baiyue said something like "when it flowers, I'll come back to see you" - can't be bothered to look up the exact dialogue, but it was something to that effect. So, now I'm wondering, how many years would that be? I know that plum trees can grow fruit after 3-6 years, so if flowers come at the same amount of time, that might mean Chu Yuan would be around 11-14 ish when they see each other next; and of course DBY is a bit older than he is, though I'm not sure how much. A lot can change in that amount of time, especially at that sort of age, so I wonder what their relationship would look like then... Well, I expect we'll find out more about that eventually.

(Though, if the tree is magic, which it might very well be, ordinary rules of nature need not apply. xD)

[edit 14/06] I was just rewatching, and saw that the bit referred to is "When it starts growing leaves, I'll come to see you". Oh. WELL... that would be much sooner, then! xD Ah, well, it was a neat idea, anyway....

And while I was scribbling the above, I saw that Subtitle Nonny posted episode 05. :D Voila.

Episode 05 thoughts follow; spoilery, obviously.

So, Chu Yuan isn't above dressing down to go about on the low-down while investigating this plot against him, is he? NICE, I like that. ...Also, considering how important he is, such a thing caries a certain amount of risk. WHICH MEANS that at some point in the plot doing such a thing might put him in danger, thus in a position to be protected or even rescued by someone - obviously Shen Qianfan is a likely contender, or perhaps Duan Baiyue at a later point in the series if Chu Yuan pulls a stunt like this on occasions when they are in close proximity. [/RUBS HANDS TOGETHER]

(And having said that, I'm suddenly entertaining the idea of Shen Qianfan/Chu Yuan. Hmm. Hmm! Lol, brain, why. ...Then again, why not. xD Hot ninja general guy/the emperor he serves sounds pretty good to me, I dunno. Shh, let's not speak of this.)

Anyway.

Ooh, new character, new character!

Hmm, Ye Jin is the name, eh? He's cute. 8) Ahh, he's a... herbalist? Doctor? I'm interested already. (And ooh, he's not just cute, he's compassionate too! How dreamy. [/SHALLOW, never mind me. xD])

Someone mentioned* in one of FFA's DWGL threads that interactions between Ye Jin and Duan Yao could be potentially really interesting; that due to his profession, Doctor Ye would be "the perfect guy to keep around somebody who likes to experiment with poison". Ha! Well, that does make me wonder when they will meet up. I'm assuming that will happen eventually, but probably not for a while.

Wait a minute, that old fart he helped out is Duan Baiyue's old master, isn't he? I thought that guy was supposed to be dead. (Then again, someone - I think it was Yao-er - mentioned that there's more to him than meets the eye in that regard, didn't he?)

Aaand back to the emperor. Ah, he's aware that Duan Baiyue is in the capital? ...Was this mentioned previously, I don't recall - or maybe it was implied - maybe I need to rewatch the earlier episodes again. (I'll do that later.) "The king of Xinan is prudent by nature" Ahhh yes, please do refer to your friend with such praise, my dear Chu Yuan. :) I love how much he trusts him!

Ah, I'm rather glad that we're seeing so much of Chu Yuan in this episode - considering what I mentioned at the beginning of the entry about not having a lot of feelings related to him yet. And we get to see him show some competence! Savvy and with great observation skills. Yes, please, do put together the pieces of this conspiracy some more. [/chinhands]

I've lost track of the timeline a bit - I'll have to go back and check; I'm unsure if this takes place during the previous episode, or after it. Maybe I should take some kind of note or something; I'm such a scatterbrain.

Anyway.... yes, I think that covers it. Insert the usual complaint about the length of the episodes. ;p Ahhh waiting for more is always such a pain.
