Reading Wednesday
May. 16th, 2018 07:16 pmThe weather is good lately. And there are blossoms on the plum tree. :) How nice. Anyway -
Just finished: The Antelope Wife by Louise Erdrich. This one is partly a novel based on an old story about a man who kidnapped an antelope to be his wife; it's partly also about familial relations through generations. It has a dreamy, magical quality that I enjoyed quite a bit.
Currently reading: The Game of Boxes by Catherine Barnett. This one is a poetry collection. The blurb on the back says Whittled down to song and fragments of story, these poems teeter at the edge of dread. What a description. Well, we'll see about that... So far, some of them seem to be more abstract than I usually prefer, but I haven't had a chance to give this much attention yet.
Reading next: I have The Years of Rice and Salt on order, but I don't know when it will come in.
Aside from that, I think I'm almost ready to tackle that new collection of Gregory Scofield poems. Possibly.
Mnh... I should return the library book I've been hoarding for several weeks, but this anthology of Chinese poetry has been so inspiring. I really should just buy a copy of it, or ask for it for my birthday, or something. I want to be able to stuff it full of bookmarks and flags and annotate it with scribbled notes on stickies.
