Eurovision Semifinal 1
May. 8th, 2018 08:18 pmAhhh, it's that time of year again! Yay, Eurovision!
Since I was at work for this (and will be for the second one as well), I was only able to listen to it, not watch, unfortunately. Ah, well.
There was only one in this batch that I strongly disliked; unfortunately, it's one that went to the final - Lithuania's entry. The singer seems to be trying to do some kind of Alanis Morissette-ish thing with her voice, and while it's a turnoff live, maybe it fares better in studio... Maybe I'll find the recorded version more tolerable. I do know that I prefer the Lithuanian version of the song; wish she'd sung this one instead. The song is still kind of boring, but at least it's prettier.
A disappointment: Greece didn't make it through. Too bad; I liked that one. I know it isn't a very remarkable entry, but... ehhh, it sounds nice, and yay for a song in Greek, and I would've liked to see it in the final (especially if it'd been Greece instead of Lithuania, bleh).
A joy: Estonia to the final! <3 I'm very happy about this - I like this entry a lot. I hope it'll place high, but considering it's an opera act, I'm not sure if it has an actual chance of winning. (I can hope?)
During the voting, I jotted down my top 10 of the songs from this round. Not necessarily in order:
+Elina Nechayeva - La forza [Estonia]
+Alekseev - Forever [Belarus]
+Mikolas Josef - Lie to Me [Czech Republic]
+Eugent Bushpepa - Mall [Albania]
+Equinox - Bones [Bulgaria]
+Cesár Sampson - Nobody But You [Austria]
+Yianna Terzi - Oniro mou [Greece]
+Saara Aalto - Monsters [Finland]
+Aisel - My Heart [Azerbaijan]
+Eleni Foureira - Fuego [Cyprus]
I think a lot of the ones that I was kind of unsure about will grow on me after listening to the recorded version, though. That always happens.
Looking forward to the next round...!
