Apr. 28th, 2018 09:44 pmOkay, so. I had another driving lesson this morning. It went well enough, which means the next step is to schedule the driving test! I'll be doing that tomorrow.
Downside is, I ended up feeling anxious for almost the entire day, but... ehh, not sure what happened there. I practiced driving with my mom yesterday, and I felt fine, so I think it might've just been the lesson part (+ in unfamiliar vehicle with unfamiliar person) that made me feel all jittery.
Look like I won't be able to take the test until the 11th or so, so I have a little while longer to practice. That's good.
Ugh, May is going to be such a busy month. Well, I guess I'll just have to deal with it. ;~;
- Turning right on a red light: Full stop + 3 second wait, every time, even if nothing is coming from the left. EVERY TIME. Otherwise it is auto-fail. (Don't drive like your dad. Drive perfectly instead.)
- Intersections: Don't panic. Go slow. IT WILL BE OKAY.
- When exiting the Registry and turning left: The left oncoming is 2 lanes before the one you are turning into; not 1. So, you need to go forward more before completing the turn.
- When driving behind bicycles on major highways: These guys aren't supposed to be riding here, but some of them do it anyway. Just uh... go as slow as possible and then change lanes when it's safe to do so.
- When straight parking in a very crowded parking lot pinned on both sides by pickup trucks (AKA standard Fort Mac parking, ew): reverse S-L-O-W-L-Y, keeping eyes on mirrors + checking, until you can see something.
- That one hill in Stone Creek past the Starbucks is tricky. When hill parking there, watch out for assloads of crosswalks and fire hydrants.
- Cartier area: after right-turning from that area and going toward the elementary school - that area is two lanes; it's just that they don't have a lane divider (WHY). If you're going straight you need to do some lane-change fiddling after turning from Powder Drive. Like so: Turn in to right lane, lane change left, drive for a bit, then lane change right to keep going straight. (Ugh.)
- If you're in a residential area and turning left and you can't see shit because there are cars parked on the street all the way up to the intersection because this is Fort Mac and this is how we roll: ....just creep up slowly until you can see something. Everyone knows how this is so just, like, stay cool, it'll be okay.
- Go slow when left turning. 15-20 KPH, no more than that. Yes, even on the major intersections.
- When approaching a yellow light at very slow speed and intending to do a right turn (think like, after exiting the Timmy's parking lot etc): You're at like 10KPH so treat it as red and do full stop. Then go.
- Parallel: When using the driving school vehicle, and getting to the 45 degree angle bit, if you kind of try to line up the handles with the curb in the magnifying mirror, the point when they intersect is when you should stop and turn your wheels all the way to the left. Likewise, once you are in, you are straight with the curb when the vehicle and the curb are parallel in the magnifier.
