Jeremy Dutcher's recently-released album, Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa. The other day, I heard one of his songs on the radio - it was "Essuwonike" - and it was so beautiful, I started crying.
You can check his stuff on bandcamp or the few tracks he has up on youtube here. I particularly recommend Mehcinut; it's a good example of what he's doing with this project.
His work is definitely worth a listen if you're interested in neo-classical work. I also suggest it for anyone interested in First Nations music. The vocals in his works are in the Wolastoq language, and they are re-arrangements of traditional Wolastoq First Nation songs. He was inspired to make this album when he came across wax cylinder recordings of songs by his ancestors in the archives of the Canadian Museum of History; some of the tracks on this album have these recordings incorporated into them. It's beautiful, and Dutcher has a gorgeous voice, and I really do recommend checking his work out.
Aside from that album, he's also released the track Honour Song, which is a different flavour from the works on Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa. This one is a collaboration with BUFFLO, and the result is an intense blend of electronic and piano, plus Dutcher's awesome vocals. I love this too, and I hope he'll eventually put out more music kind of like this, not just the one track. (Maybe that's something for the future.)
