Drag me to rarepair hell
Mar. 19th, 2018 06:39 pmI'm so glad that Nirvana in Fire isn't a "Yuuago laughing alone with salad" fandom. I mean, I'm sure I'd enjoy watching regardless (and I certainly AM enjoying it!), but it's really good that there's such nice fanart out there and such, and I'm really looking forward to poking around through older discussions of the canon once I'm finished watching it.
Aaaand then Tik went and got me interested in certain pairings and oh no....
Tiny? Yes.
This always happens! :D
But at least we're in this together!
And it isn't as if the only pairings I like are small - I do also like the three that seem to be the most popular - but it's like, "Why did you suggest this, my darling, now I'm completely unable to stop thinking about it!"
So, out of the blue, she suggested... Jingrui/MCS. And this surprised me very much, because it's something I'd been thinking about myself; just in the way of - "You know, they get along rather well, and I really enjoy the scenes they have together, and the dynamic between them interests me, and they're both really fucking attractive; it would be a rather good ship". And apparently they have some good scenes in the novel, or so I've heard - Tik has been reading a sketchy translation of it, if I remember right.
But it certainly isn't the most obvious pair for either of them, so it was nice to find out that she feels very much the same way. <3
Of course, there seems to be no fanwork! Alas! Or at least not that I've seen, though I haven't been looking too closely because I'm still not far into the series. Then again, I suspect that later canon developments might have something to do with it. But, who knows. Also, well - I suppose in a fanwork context, a one-sided thing would be easier, but that is no surprise considering the type of relationship that these two have.
Anyway.
And THEN she suggested Meng Zhi/MCS and I just about died because that is also a Good Ship. (It seems to be her favourite, heh.)
There's just something about their interactions that delights me so much. Or, well, dear General Meng delights me in... general... and the way he and Mei Changsu get along is just! So! Good!
Also: I really enjoy the relations that Fei Liu and Meng Zhi have, and this is also important in the context of Meng Zhi/MCS, because Fei Liu and MCS have such a good and important relationship, so... Well, you know what I mean. It makes it more interesting to me.
Plus, I mean, just look at this adorable fanart. I think it adequately sums up all of my feelings about this. :D
Regardless, someone needs to warm up MCS's cold hands, and dear General Meng would be a very good person to do it. <3 Since he has such a warm personality. Yes.
And then there's the third pair, which, well. I can't blame Tik for this one, actually.
Prince Yu -> Mei Changsu would definitely be a weird and strictly one-sided thing, but the more I think about it, the more I find the idea interesting.
I'd been rolling the thought around in my head for a bit, but I think what really set the idea was that scene where MCS has invited several people over to his house, and he says that another person is going to show up no matter if he's invited or not, and of course we know which Certain Individual this is, and I couldn't help but find myself thinking, "That's rough, buddy" when yes, indeed, Prince Yu shows up.
Tik phrased their relations as: Prince Yu is kinda beard-like for MCS but he doesn't know it and it's tragic.
[/WHEEZE]
I... wouldn't put it that way, but it's certainly a way to describe how they get on, isn't it. Strategic bearding, ahaha.
It would be rather messy, wouldn't it. It starts with Prince Yu being strictly interested in Mei Changsu because of what he can offer him re: manoevers and strategy in his attempt to grasp the throne, but then it gets a little bit weird, going a bit beyond political interest, a bit beyond admiration for his strategic talents, a bit beyond, well....
Of course, I haven't thought about it deeply, and it actually isn't a pair that I feel very passionately about (unlike the other two, as well as the more popular pairings that I like) but whenever I give it a moment of thought, it's very, "Hmm, that would be interesting."
Anyway. I will, uh, probably have more intelligent thoughts at some later date. Especially after I'm further into the series. But for now, all I have is delightful nonsense. :D

Date: 2018-03-20 01:20 pm (UTC)In my head Jingrui definitely had a crush on Lin Shu :D And possibly later on MCS, and though I can't quite see them getting together in canon it seems like a great pairing for AUs.

Date: 2018-03-21 01:41 am (UTC)Ahh yes, a crush on Lin Shu is a definite. <3
The "can't quite see them getting together in canon" thing is also sticky for me - I keep getting hung up on "Okay, uh, how would this even work, speaking in a pracctical way". Makes me wish that I could draw, because fanart doesn't require working out the fussy details like that. xD
