щ(◉Д◉щ) Holy crackers, writing characters who are supposed to be intelligent is such a pain in the ass. How the heck do people do this? IT'S... REALLY CHALLENGING.

It's a challenge I love, but it's definitely a challenge. XD (At least he also has the obvious weakness "no physical body," which can help with coming up actual plot obstacles.)

PLANNING. LOTS AND LOTS OF CAREFUL PLANNING. And trying to come up with situations where their geniusness isn't particularly useful.

YES SO MUCH THIS. Some of them are a bit easier than others, like those that are very focused on a specific field and oblivious to much else (e.g. Rodney McKay), but those who are really smart AND observant are the worst.

Time. The reader doesn't have to know it took you five days to solve what the character solved in five seconds!

I don't know shit about writing or being a genius, but statistics say the smarter you are, the more unhappy you tend to feel. So aim for depressed and possibly dysfunctional in some emotional way (since that also comes with the territory in many cases, for a variety of reasons). Maybe blogs of people with autism/Asperger's syndrome who describe their inner lives might help. I can see two main directions: very into their life purpose if they have one (work that's meaningful to them etc) or very disillusioned with everything, just kind of trying to trick themselves into hoping tomorrow may be better. Now ofc depending on the character you write, this may be far off, but I'll say I have a hard time imagining a genuinely happy intelligent person/character, if they live in our universe or something equivalent (which doesn't have magic or something similar to sweeten the deal).

I'm not sure if any of this is helpful, but hitting post anyway. I'm curious what you'll come up with.
