So, it looks like the final result of the Australian marriage equality postal vote is Yes. Congratulations, southern cousins!

Of course, this ain't the end, but it's a step, right? Even though (as I understand) it isn't legally binding, it's hard to argue with 61%. That's a pretty solid majority.

I'm acquainted with some people who were pretty concerned about what the result would be, so I'm glad it turned out for the positive.

It was nice to hear some good news today.

Yay! It's great! It's really great, even if it's not legally binding. It's great to know that 61% of people support gay marriage but now the government have to actually pass the legislation. They're saying before Christmas? There's no way to know for sure. We're planning to run off and get it done asap, anyway.

Before Christmas? :O That seems really quick to me - like, so soon that it isn't likely - but I don't know how fast your government can move with this sort of thing, so... hopefully it actually will be that soon!
