yuuagoWeeeellll I haven't been doing any writing in the past two days, but that's okay. I'll make up for it on the weekend. (Or perhaps I'll try tonight?) It isn't as if I'm doing proper NaNoWriMo, anyway. Good luck to those of you who are trying, though!
I did get kind of hit smack in the face with an idea for a longer story, and I might try to start work on it this weekend - maybe - if I can decide exactly what to do with it. Something inspired by Marzanna-centric folklore probably.
Maybe something inspired by Marzanna's murder of Jarilo, with some extra stuff added in - questionable treatment of the corpse, and probably also cannibalism. And I once read something in which she used his bones to build her house, and while I don't know if I'd incorporate that, I do like the idea of her putting parts of his body to various uses, some of them particularly questionable.
The other idea is loosely inspired by a story I once read about Marzanna and Dazhbog, in which she seduced him, and kept him with her for a while, and later tried to kill him. I think the approach I'd take would be... partly seduction, moreso coercion; he comes into her house willingly, but then she intends to keep him there no matter if he wants to leave or not. (Hmm, suddenly seeing a parallel to Veles... kidnapping a handsome god and forcing him to stay... perhaps this runs in the family.) Basically, playing with tropes associated with kidnapping and stockholm/lima and probably also enchantment as well - perhaps she has him under some sort of spell for part of the time, or something.
Also, I really like the idea of her cooking what's left of Jarilo and feeding him to her new lover; it's so delightfully gruesome. When I've come across things where Marzanna and Dazhbog are involved, the sun god seems to be used as her partner instead of Jarilo, but I prefer to think of such a scenario as something that takes place after the murder. So... I have the basics of what I want. There are some things that I need to figure out, though, such as how much necrophilia to put in, if any, and just how graphic should this thing be, anyway... WHO KNOWS. [/throws hands up] We'll figure it out.
OH Also, since I was thinking about it, that fic that I recced yesterday reminded me that while I'm not a huge fan of Jarilo himself, he becomes a hundred times more interesting to me if his abduction and confinement in the underworld by Veles has an erotic edge to it. In most situations, I prefer a somewhat cozier portrayal of Veles, but with this in particular, I love it when he's just so creepy. ...Don't know if I'll ever do something with that, but who knows, maybe some day.
So, that's a thing.
I was going to spend this evening productively, but you know what?
