[YiH] Fic spitballing braindump

yuuagoHmmmm, in chat today we were talking about how YiH fic is challenging to write, and that made me want to braindump ideas everywhere....
The main issue, for me, is current canon point, and the amount that we have, or don't have. Not that there isn't enough to latch onto; there is. But it requires speculation/invention, and so, all of the stories that I can come up with require more plot that I'm typically capable of writing! And a higher wordcount than I usually can manage. Damn it, Jim, I'm a poet, not a novelist. ;V Or even a short story writer.
That said, hmm, stuff that I would write if I were capable of it... or stuff that I would read if it existed! Well, let's see.....
☆ Canon predictions, AKA ~what happens next~. Obviously, one way to find out is to sit tight and wait, but it's always fun to try to predict where to go from here. I did enjoy slapping together that one thing I wrote with Jaakko and Veeti, even though it was quite a challenge. Even when it gets inevitably jossed, it's kind of neat to compare and see what turned out as expected, and what didn't.
☆ Sakari's disappearance and everything related to that - wtf happened to him, arriving in Kalevala, literally anything that happened to him since he got there, and so on. (Also, the fallout back home. Hoo boy.)
☆ Speaking of Sakari, how did he and Jaakko become pals, anyway? YES I want that, I would read that. Just... how they met, or even friendshippy slice-of-life stuff, those two interacting is always gold.
☆ Also gold: Jaakko and Sulo interacting in any context. Like, every time I re-read that section in the comic where they're puzzling over the sword, I lose my shit because those two are just so damn funny. Slice-of-life stuff with them, yesplz.
☆ Oh and, I still ship Sakari/Jaakko, yes indeedy. Given we already know that they get along, it's pretty damn easy to write them as a pairing, especially if one takes the approach where it's like, they just have a casual thing going on, nothing too serious. (Onnn account of that, if I ever write actual 18+ fic in this fandom rather than vague erotic poetry/drabbles, it'll likely be this pair.) (Probably.) (Then again you never know.)
☆ All the Jaakko & Veeti or Jaakko/Veeti soulmate stuff. All of it. I feel like for me, that trope + this duo is the fic equivalent of stuffing my face with cotton candy. Or, well, something like that. Substance, who needs it, I don't care, just give me more. xD Though something with more, like, actual plot to it would be cool. I don't know if I could manage that, but it would be neat.
☆ Folie has mentioned that, you know, technically Veeti has already slept in Jaakko's bed. ...I don't know what to do with this from a "stuff to write fic about" point of view, but I feel like it is a detail that fully deserves to be pointed out, and needs to be in this list. ;p
☆ One more thing about that pair is... Veeti is a very isolated individual. And something dealing with that in a relationship context could be pretty interesting. Could even be in the context of established-relationship fic, really. It's just, I can't imagine him being previously Involved with anybody at all, considering his, well, everything. So that would make Jaakko/Veeti very... different from most pairings that I typically would write, I guess. I don't know what I want to do with this, but I do want to explore it somehow, eventually.
☆ Though the above would make for pretty good gen, too, if approached in a friendship context. Yes, that would also be excellent.
☆ Speaking of Veeti gen, reunion with Sakari, yes. Though I guess this one falls under the very first point listed, since it's something that will (probably/hopefully) happen in canon at some point; we just don't know the exact details of how it'll shake out. But like. I would read a hundred fic iterations of this. I should write some myself. Yes.
☆ Anyway. As for Mika - I actually have a Lot Of Feelings about Mikael, and I'll dump my brain re: that some other time, but right now I apparently love traumatizing the guy, because I can't help but say PLEASE SCARE HIM SOME MORE. Haaa, I feel bad for wanting to make him cry, but oh well~ Kind of requires a plot, though. (Argh, again with plot!) Or, I dunno, there's always... nightmares or something. Yes. 8) Or just sobbing in general because everything is terrible and he never signed up for this, JFC I'd be crying too in his shoes. Poor kid.
☆ More gen with Mika & Veeti is deffo on the list of things that need to exist. There's something about their interactions that I've seen that I really love, though I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly. I love that Mika's description of Veeti is that he's "kind of weird". Well, you aren't exactly not-weird yourself, buddy. In fact, all things considered, you'll probably get weirder as time goes on - how do you like them apples. ;V ;V (AKA I like the idea of them coming to understand each other better over time somehow, though I'm not sure how that would ideally come about.)
I'm sure there are some things that I forgot. Probably a ton of things. OH WELL, at least I can look back at this list in case I ever feel like writing and need something to latch onto... Not that I could write most of this, anyway, but - some of it? Maybe? WHO KNOWS.
