Nice and tidy~ ☆
Aug. 22nd, 2017 08:03 pmI spent a good portion of Sunday cleaning out my cosmetic drawers. I feel like I have SO MUCH ROOM now.
Man, it's so good to finally be able to SEE everything. At least, to a degree. Better than before, at any rate.
Only issue is that there just isn't a convenient way to store all those nail polishes... The drawers aren't quite deep enough for most of them to stand upright. Such a pain in the ass. But I don't really have room for any alternatives. A proper rack would be nice, but oh well, I guess I'll just have to... gradually work my way through these. :D
I found so much stuff that I'd stashed away, though. Apparently I had a backup concealer brush? When the heck did I buy that? (So glad I found it, though, it was time for a new one.) And I completely forgot that I own one of those Ardency Inn black lip glosses. And where the heck did I get that one Dior polish, I have no idea.... (Also, apparently I'd stashed twenty bucks in an empty compact, for some completely unknown reason.)
Anyway.
Finally cracked open a new bottle of Urban Decay eye primer. This is the first one I've used after they've switched to the doefoot applicator rather than the squeeze tube. I'm... not sure what I think of it. The formula is different! But this isn't necessarily a bad thing? Sometimes, with the previous one, I found that it was easy to over-apply. And it tended to emphasize my lines if I didn't apply it perfectly. (I mean, I don't have a lot of lines... yet... But a few, yes.) So far so good with this one, but I'll have to see. I haven't tried it on anything that tends toward glitter fallout yet.
So, I recently picked up two new UD shadows. "Relish" and "Thunderbird". Relish is a brick-red matte; Thunderbird is a bronze shimmer. Now... a few years ago, if you'd told me I'd be wearing red eyeshadow on a regular basis, I'd have thought you were crazy. But man, do I ever love it. I've been wearing red for a while now - started with one included in Kat von D's "Starstruck" palette, which has a dark red shimmer that I really adore. So, this one is just a continuation, I guess. Somehow, the red makes my eyes look like kind of a washed-out steel grey, instead of blue; I really like that. Plus, it's a nice way to get a low-effort goth-ish look without having to go black. I try to avoid black eyeshadow, really - I find it so hard to apply without going overboard.
Now, this one, I wasn't so sure about... I'm usually not a fan of mattes; I find they tend to make my eyes look dry. No problems with Relish so far, though - I guess it's dark enough that it doesn't give the same effect, especially not when paired with a translucent shimmer base (MAC "Rice Paper", usually - one of the few shadows I've ever hit pan on, how typical...) It blends out nicely, and it also plays well with Thunderbird - the red + bronze pairing looks great, though I want to experiment with it a bit more.
It really makes me happy that I'm making the effort to do my eyes again. For a while there - because of the fire, I guess - I was just way too depressed to do my eye makeup. Foundation + mascara only, mostly. And I didn't do my nails much, either... Occasionally, yes, but definitely not what it was like before that. It's nice to do these things again.
I'm trying to let myself relax and talk about cosmetics more. It's one of my hobbies, I guess - something that I really enjoy - but a lot of the time, I'm reluctant to talk about it, because sometimes people who don't know me well get weird about it. But... I should try to just ignore that, I know. So. ;V

Date: 2017-08-24 03:03 pm (UTC)I would like to be able to wear turquoise or teal eyeshadow on a regular basis! something like this: https://i0.wp.com/www.featherfactor.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/turquaticthumb.jpeg?resize=600%2C360
What foundation do you use? I'm thinking of getting a new one...
I find that I usually skip mascara because with my Asian lashes, I'd have to get the curler, put on a coat, wait a bit, curl it again, then put on another coat. There's probably a way to do it more time efficiently though. The fact that I don't have a table or counter specifically for doing makeup probably doesn't help haha.

Date: 2017-08-26 03:14 pm (UTC)That turquoise look you linked it amazing. *_* Totally wild!
Iiii well... foundation-wise I use Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. Anti-rec on the price point, obviously, but it wears really nicely, and a little goes a long way, so I've stuck with it for a while.
If curling is what you have to do to get your lashes looking the way you want with mascara, then I can't blame you for avoiding it. That sounds so time-consuming! And eyelash curlers kind of scare me, they look like medieval torture devices. xD
