[Movies/Braindump] Red Cliff

yuuagoUhhh so, I watched Red Cliff, and came away with the following thoughts:
-If nothing else, I would've enjoyed this film for the visuals + costuming. Lots of neat things going on here, buuuut then again I'm always up for a historical film. So.
-Takeshi Kaneshiro is really hot, especially in this role as Zhuge Liang, apparently.
-Seriously he is so fucking attractive.
-But that's mostly because - something about those clothes + this role, I guess, this calm strategist who nevertheless has an aura of kindness and good humour. And the whole "reading the weather" thing appeals to me a lot.
-Also I ended up shipping Zhuge Liang/Zhou Yu like WHOA.
-But apparently I'm not alone in this because ahaha lots of other people do too.
-Though searching for it is kind of tricky because of course it's a history ship so you've got material from Red Cliff but also Dynasty Warriors and other things. ...But on the other hand that just means more material, in a way.
-Seriously though the way their interaction is portrayed in this film is just so... so... !!!!! It's perfect, like, it's as if John Woo plugged himself into my brain and sifted through for Stuff I Like, what the hell.
-Especially the whole THING where Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang play a duet together in order to see if they can "work in harmony". The scene itself is beautiful, of course, but the chemistry between them is perfect and I just fell in love. ...I might need to borrow this idea to use in some sort of fic for a different canon; I already have a few possibilities as to which canons/pairs would go well, but hmm, we'll see.
-Oh, look, that scene is up on youtube. Go look at it, it's just so lovely. "His answer is within his music" AAAAHHHH <3
-Though I also love Zhou Yu's relationship with Xiao Qiao so... hmm...
-WELL YOU KNOW I can ot3 this, I mean, that little comment Xiao Qiao made to Zhuge Liang at the end, the whole "When that pony grows up, do not make her a war horse", of course she was serious about it but there was something affectionate in the way she said it too, so YOU KNOW... yeah, I can roll with this.
-Speaking of Xiao Qiao and Zhou Yu, that SCENE where Zhou Yu is training, and Xiao Qiao is there, and she's reciting bits from the Art of War while he's doing all this elegant and beautiful footwork and whatever in the background... yeaaaah that was hot. That was really hot.
-Actually you know what, I really love Xiao Qiao, WHAT A BRAVE WOMAN. I mean, going to Cao Cao on her own would have been enough, but then the whole scene where she makes him tea in order to delay him long enough for the wind to change... and THEN:
Xiao Qiao: [pouring too much tea] Your Highness. Don't you see your true self reflected in this tea? Your heart is overflowing with ambition. It's too full to let other people in. You've carried this full heart to Red Cliff. Someone here shall pour that heart onto the floor.
AND THEN SHE POURS IT ALL ON THE FLOOR with a completely straight face and I just. Oh man, I love that scene.
-And speaking of brave women in this movie, can't go without mentioning Sun Shangxiang, holy shit is she ever. That bit where she and her company acts as a distraction in order to fool the enemy into falling into place for the tortoise formation! AND THEN the whole thing where she's a spy in Cao Cao's camp, holy shit. What a gal, that Sun Shangxiang.
OVERALL: It was pretty, the battle scenes were cool, Xiao Qiao and Sun Shangxiang are badass in different ways, and apparently I ship Zhuge Liang/Zhou Yu now. OKAY THEN....
