☆ Watched Brooklyn (2015) [IMDB] with my mum this evening. A++ great movie; lovely historical drama, also very prettily shot. It's about an Irish woman who immigrates to the USA, and what she finds there, and what she leaves behind. Basically. Happy ending, too, which is nice - though I will note that some parts are very sad. Definitely would recommend, though.

☆ Managed to get SOME writing done today, which is better than nothing. Tomorrow, I'll do better. I want to have my SSSS Advent calendar fic drafted by Sunday. And I also want my Yuletide fic to be able to pass the bus test. We'll see what happens. I'm finding it really hard to concentrate on my assigned stuff right now, and it's not just because I've fallen into figure skating hell. (There are many factors at work.)

☆ Received confirmation a few days ago that Chocolate Box Exchange will definitely be running again. Wonderful! I really loved that exchange last year, and I'm looking forward to doing it again.

☆ Ooh, what, Dami Im has a new single out! I had no idea. Fighting For Love AHH I LIKE IT. <3 Just watch, it'll be stuck in my head for like a week....

What's this bus test you're talking about?

The bus test is, more specifically, the "In case I get hit by a bus" test.

Basically, a fic passes the bus test if it's complete, doesn't break any of the exchange's rules, and the writing is... well, maybe not great, but you've run it through a spellchecker at least. Something that you would not be ashamed for your assigned person to receive from you, even if it isn't your usual quality.

Uploading an exchange fic that passes the bus test is a measure in case something happens to the author (or, more frequently, their computer). The idea is that you revise it later, and then re-upload the fixed version closer to the exchange deadline.

I like doing this because it takes some of the pressure off - at least, my mind works that way. The story is "done and uploaded", so I don't have to agonize over it and tinker with it any more - I can just go on to the next assignment.

Yeah! Hopefully it will help. <3 I've run into the perfectionism problem a lot too, and it's just so freeing to think of it instead as "It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done, and I can make it perfect later."
