Random Weiss Kreuz Braindump

Can't remember which episode I just finished (11? I think?) but I'm still making my way through the series for the Nth time. Anyhow....

-I don't know WHAT it is about this series. Weiss Kreuz is terrible from all angles. But there's just SOMETHING about it that pushes my buttons. Digs straight into the part that says yes I love this and makes me love it in all its awfulness. It's like the anime version of Cheetos. Or Doritos. Or whatever horrible snack food you love. Pop tarts. Frosted Flakes. You all know what I mean.

-I can't believe I still find Schuldig attractive after all these years.

-... Actually, you know what, yes I can. I ADMIT IT. Damn it.

-You know what, I never was much of a fan of Ouka, but she grew on me on this watch-through. She's a spoiled kid, sure, but she has a sweet side.

-Please tell me that I'm not the only person who made terrible fashion decisions in high school on account of this show. Please.

-Like, we're talking SERIOUSLY TERRIBLE fashion decisions, good lord.

-... I still want Ran's orange sweater, though.

-The first zillion times that I watched it, I didn't give a damn about Schreient. But now? I'm kind of interested. My, how times have changed. Though I also can't remember anything relating to them, so it's like watching it all new again, wheeeeee.

-Jesus Christ, is Manx ever hot.

-Somehow I'm vaguely shipping everything, but at the same time shipping nothing. We will see what happens as this progresses. THOUGH I think I remember now why I ended up shipping Ken and Omi last time I watched this - there's this one scene where Ken is injured and being kind of a sop about it, and Omi's tending to him. щ(◉Д◉щ) What can I say, I like certain scenarios, pf.

-I don't know if I want to read fic for this series. I'm kind of terrified to look. I expect the section for it at ffnet is a vast mess of... something. Here there be dragons.

Oh man my friends and I tried to watch WK recently but didn't manage to find the dvds. Maybe that was a good thing.

I don't remember a lot about that show.. but I do remember Omi's bra hat. What was that?! And that awful art that happened after someone got sued (I think).

It was probably a good thing you couldn't find the discs. :'D I mean, I love this series, but it is truly terrible.

Bloopers, well - actually no. I've never actually seen the dub. ;p To be fair, it's kind of ridiculously funny on its own.

Oops, look what time does. I started looking at Weiss Kreuz pictures and my bra hat memory turned out to be some corrupted memory from a joke I guess my friends and I had back when we first watched it.

There are some really excellent Weiss Kreuz fics out there, but there's also a heck of a lot of dreck. The stuff I've been seeing recently tends more toward AUs and toward a heavy focus on Schwarz, particularly on their backstory. My impression is that a lot of what's on AO3 is reposts of older stuff, but that could be completely inaccurate and based more on the fact that, after reading a fandom for fourteen years, everything starts to look the same.

I still write in the fandom, from time to time. I see a lot of possibilities in it and keep coming up with new ideas, something that doesn't happen in other fandoms unfortunately.

I have a Weiss Kreuz recs page on my personal website, but I haven't updated it since 2008, and a lot of the fics listed there have vanished from the internet.

I see, I see! Good to know. Might go poking around eventually, I suppose, but... it sure seems like there's an awful lot to sift through. That's the problem with big (or formerly big) fandoms - so much stuff. Too much.

The only WK fic author I really know anything about is Daegaer, and she writes some really out-there Schwartz-centric AUs that are great fun to read. Schwartz as foreign mercenaries in Ancient Rome? Check. Schwartz as Victorian steampunk assassins on Mars? Check. And her Nagi-Omi (and Nagi/Omi) stuff is also enjoyable.

God, I really must do a rewatch sometime. But I never have anyone to watch it with, and that's half the fun. D:

Schuldig is just surprisingly attractive. It's a burden he has to live with. :D

You know, I'd always assumed I would hate Ouka when I got to watch the whole series, but - actually, I just feel like she deserves better. Poor girl. Fridged for Takatori manpains. D: Schreient I never really warmed up to, but in a better show they could have had so much potential.
