Nice Little Things
Sep. 28th, 2015 07:53 pm☆ Today was one of those days that just went well, far better than expected, even if nothing in particular really happened per se. Just a really, really nice day at work. I got a lot done. Feels good!
☆ I wrestled with my brain again, and defeated it. Hooray! Go me!
☆ Fic ideas keep hitting me from every direction. On the one hand, yay, ideas! On the other... wish things would slow down a little; I have more than I can handle. But - I guess I shouldn't complain.
☆ The autumn cologne samples I ordered from Traveling Vardo came in today. Hopefully at least a few of them will smell as good as the description. At least half of them lean sweet, and that could turn out to be overwhelming, but - I'll reserve my verdict until I've tested them.
☆ Been listening to lots of Fountains of Wayne lately. I tend to go off and on with them. The vocals aren't generally my taste - Chris Collingwood's singing is a little more nasal than I usually like. But the lyrics are often really interesting - almost all of their songs tell a clear narrative story. I like that. Firelight Waltz is a lot different from the rest of their music in terms of tone, and it's probably my favourite. At least, at the moment. The atmosphere is just - perfect. Warm fire on a cold night. Perfect. I... think I might need to use it as inspiration for something. Not the lyrics, but the overall feeling of it. (I have vague ideas for a Signe/Michael fic, but, we'll see.)
☆ Oh, and I can't talk about favourite Fountains of Wayne songs without linking Cemetery Guns, too. A combination of the lyrics + atmosphere + pace, I think, and the visuals and the sharpness of the drums, that's what makes this one, I think. Honestly, though, the entire Sky Full of Holes album is pretty good. It seems like the only time I hear people talking about these guys is when the song "Stacy's Mom" comes up, and don't get me wrong, I like that one too, but - that was over ten years ago, man. They've done some awesome stuff since then.
