yuuagoToday was pretty okay! I have most of the weekend to myself, so that's nice to begin with. And it didn't rain, which is always a plus. Downside was, I woke up this morning to discover that we had absolutely nothing in the fridge that was suitable for breakfast, and worse, no coffee. But obviously I survived to tell the tale.
Headed downtown this afternoon and - to my surprise - discovered that the coffee joint I'd always assumed was take-away only actually has seating. Extremely limited seating, mind you, but it exists. And not only that, the coffee is awesome. It's such a small thing, but it makes me really, really happy. There aren't many independently-owned cafes in my town; the only other one I'm aware of isn't open on weekends any more. So, having somewhere to go other than Starbucks is great, because I really have a thing about supporting small cafes. (Not to mention... well. Starbucks just doesn't have good coffee, man.) So - highlight of my day, that was.
I feel a little bit weird. One of those moods where I'm all fidgety, but I can't make myself concentrate long enough to do anything. I keep picking up books and putting them down, trying to write but nothing is clicking... Managed to slap down 400 or so on that "Kielo's journey to Tuonela" fic I started writing a week or two ago, but I'm not sure if I'll keep what I wrote, because it seems a little flat. Might need to do some rewriting. And I'm itching to start a couple other things - including a plotty aRTD fic that I want to have done by end of October - but right now, in this kind of mood, is definitely not the time.
(Speaking of A Redtail's Dream, I successfully managed to getaguacatillo to read it, and eeeeeeEEEEEEE she enjoys it and that makes me so happy... Sometimes I feel like I've been a bit too pushy with my enthusiasm for this comic, but it really is very, very cute, and I'm so glad that my impression that she'd like it was correct.)
Let's see, tomorrow's goals: Wake up early, brisk walk outside, then sit down to finish drafting that Kielo fic. I can't decide whether I should consult the Kalevala for ideas, or if I should just stick strictly to the way Tuonela is illustrated in A Redtail's Dream, but we'll see... I guess that comes down to fiddly details that I can adjust after the main draft is done. I also hope to prod that Jonna/Riikka fic some more and, if I'm lucky, figure out why it's not working and fix it. It's just so blah and pinpointing the reason why has been hard. Best guess right now is that it needs more... atmosphere, oomph, something. Whatsit. Chemistry, maybe. And... character voice... Riikka is so hard to write. Jonna is a little easier, but still very difficult. Actually, almost all the characters in A Redtail's Dream are a pain in the butt to write, though Ville has been the easiest so far.
