So far, this weekend has been pretty good, but not too productive. Well, we'll see how the rest of it shapes up.

I've finally watched Fantasia (1940), AKA "In which Disney shows off and it's pretty neat". This is one Disney film that I never watched when I was a kid; I have distinct memories of watching the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" sequence, but I think I might have seen it separately, somehow. It was the kind of film that never would have appealed to me as a kid; I don't think I would have been able to sit through it.

As for watching it now, I was at least able to appreciate the neat animation and the unusual format. The whole "animation done to match music, rather than the other way around" doesn't happen so often, and I think it was a neat idea. That isn't to say this is one of my preferred animated films, though; this one probably won't get a re-watch. But I do appreciate it for what it is: an interesting animated film that does something different from the usual.

I think my favourite part of the program was the "Nutcracker Suite" sequence - I loved all the nature imagery, and the snow fairies were so damn pretty. "Pastoral Symphony" comes as a close second, though - mostly because of the adorable pastel pegasus babies. Too cute! Well, the pastel everything really - I liked the colour palette in that sequence a lot.

And of course, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is a classic, though I don't think I liked it as much as I expected to.

Took a bunch of screencaps during this, and I have vague ideas about doing icons or photosets or something, since some parts of it are just so pretty - but we'll have to see. It might languish in my caps folder for a while.
