I figured that if I make a monthly recap of the films I watch, it'll be motivation for me to actually complete my "watch 50 films" resolution this year (I usually don't manage to reach 50). So, let's start with January.

01. The Lone Ranger (2013)

-Don't waste your time watching this. Even if you're a huge Depp fan, just... don't. It was pretty bad. A lot of the humour felt really... forced. Some of the special effects/explosions were pretty cool, but you can look those scenes up on youtube if you really want to. The "story within a story" format has been done before, and I found it a bit interesting that it was attempted here - mostly because I wasn't expecting that at all. But it wasn't pulled off all that well here. Anyway, don't watch this, it isn't good at all. Though I'm mildly interested in how it compares to the original... I might watch that.

02. The Scarlet and the Black (1983)

-This is a film about the "Scarlett Pimpernell of the Vatican" - Hugh O'Flaherty, a Vatican priest who, during WWII, saved many escaped allied POWs and Jews by hiding them in various properties around Rome. Anyway, if you like that kind of film, you might enjoy this. I'd watch it again.

03. Toy Story 3 (2010)

-I don't remember the other two Toy Story films very well, but this film doesn't rely a lot on background, which is a plus. Found this one pretty solid and delightful, but not necessarily something that will stick with me. But, it's worth a watch if you like animated movies and haven't seen it yet.

04. Les Diaboliques (1955)

-This one was recommended to me as a horror film... I'm not sure I'd quite call it that, but it does have horror elements, and some parts are very creepy. It's about a woman teaming up with her husband's mistress in order to murder him; it was the mistress's idea - he treats them both unkindly, and they're better off with him dead! Or so the premise goes. I'd recommend not reading up much about it before watching it; it's better that way. Oh, and if the title didn't make it obvious, it's in French.

05 - 10. Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002), Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005)

-For a detailed discussion of my impressions of the whole Star Wars film series, you can read the entries in my Star Wars tag. Tl;dr: Watch the original trilogy first; the prequel trilogy is more effective that way, I think. I primarily watched these so that I would understand the cultural references and... well, it was about time, I think. I enjoyed them, but I don't know if I'd watch them again on my own; I'd be more likely to do it with friends.

11. Les Yeux Sans Visage/Eyes without a face (1960)

-This is another French horror film, and unlike Les Diaboliques, I would definitely classify this as horror. It's about a young woman whose face was horribly destroyed in a car accident, and the lengths that her father will go to in order to try to restore her to her original condition. I originally decided to watch this film because in the film Ringu O, there is a play version of this performed, and it interested me. Anyway, like I mentioned, I would classify it as horror, but there are two specific things I want to mention. Do not watch this if you have an aversion to graphic, extended surgery scenes (I didn't expect a film from this era to bother me, but I had to cover my eyes a lot). Also, do not watch this film if you're afraid of dogs.
