Valiant Hearts - More flailing

yuuagoSo, I played more Valiant Hearts. Now I've passed the end of Chapter 3. Haven't started Chapter 4 yet though.
-I found that saving all those soldiers in the mines when you're playing as Emile is kind of traumatic. Especially the part where the bomb randomly goes off. And when that one guy dies in front of you. And when you basically have to help blow up all those Germans. JFC, it's terrible. No wonder Emile refused the medal. (Good on him. He's a good guy, that Emile.)
-Also I must confess that I love anything involving Freddie + Tanks, I just like BIG MACHINES THAT BLOW STUFF UP
-Though I must admit that during The Somme I had to resort to a walkthrough. After your first tank blows up and you have to go underground to do that thing? Yeah. I DIDN'T REALIZE YOU COULD STOMP OUT THE DYNAMITE. Like, that was seriously not my first instinct. So those British guys I was with kept blowing up, which was... traumatic.
-I need to re-do The Somme again, to try to make sure that all my guys get through it alive. Since that's an achievement you can get toward 100% completion. But also because I love the way their speech bubbles have hearts in them if you make sure they don't die; it's cute. (... Freddie/Random British Soldier Guy, y/y? .... Well okay maybe N.)
-I don't usually talk about Emile much, but man, I really do love him. Like I said before, he's a great guy. His reaction to hearing the news of Karl's death was so sad - and touching. He's too old to be dealing with this shit, a guy like him, his daughter's at home all alone trying to keep things together, and he's risking his life every day, and then suddenly he finds out that one of his family members is dead and he just feels so.... crushed. (And I love that he's so close to Karl; the way I hear some people talk, it's as if in-laws aren't really family. And that's a sentiment that pisses me off. So it's nice to see the opposite here, where Emile and Karl have a very loving and caring familial relationship.)
-But speaking of Karl
-AHHHH KARL ISN'T DEAD I'M SO GLAD. I mean I expect that he wouldn't be dead, but y'know. Man, that level where you play him as he escapes from the POW camp is nerve-racking.
-Oh good lord Karl you poor thing, I'm so glad that lady let him inside to rest for a while, even if he ended up on the run almost immediately after.
-I'M SO GLAD HE MET UP WITH ANNA AGAIN AHHHH WHAT A DUO
-Seriously though, he probably would have frozen to death if she hadn't picked him up, poor guy, jesus christ. This is, what, the second time she's saved his life?
-And since they now have more time together that is specifically blocked out within the confines of the narrative and within actual play time, I am more comfortable with totally wanting them as Best Buddies Forever. I mean, sure I wanted that before, but while they technically had interaction, it wasn't set down as firmly as I would have liked, not as - hmm - firmly as Emile and Freddy's friendship is. So, I'm glad I have that now.
-Seriously though, what is Anna's deal with saving random soldiers that she finds on the side of the road, I mean I have zero problem with her playing Superwoman but uh
-Well okay, I guess at this point Karl doesn't count as "some random soldier" but you know what I mean.
-I must have made him change uniforms about a zillion times before I figured out what I needed to do in order to get the wheel after Anna's car broke down. orz (Dude, Karl, dark colours suit you best, that light stuff makes you look washed out. But at least it ~gets you places~.)
-Also I kind of blew Anna's car up about a zillion times when that tank (???) was chasing us. Oops. IT WASN'T ON PURPOSE I SWEAR, I JUST HAVE CRAP-ASS REFLEXES.
Ahhh ahhh I really want to play more, but since there's only one chapter left I'm going to try to draw it out. And then re-play like, all the levels, so that I can 100% it. But yeah.
Sob. I want to like, make icons and stuff, but I'm not about to go searching for screencaps and stuff because I don't want to spoil myself. And I could use screencaps that I took myself but they're all on the other computer and I'm too lazy to transfer them, woe is me.
