Stuff I've watched lately
Oct. 26th, 2014 05:39 pmThis weekend was lazy. I wrote some ficlets. It snowed.
Mostly I haven't really been doing anything in the past week. I've been watching movies in my free time because I don't really have much mental energy for anything else. Maybe I'll list some of them here.
*I'm a cyborg but that's OK: Really odd Korean film about a girl who thinks she's a combat cyborg. While in a mental institution, she falls in love with a boy who thinks he can steal souls. ... As I said, it's an odd movie. But visually, it's pretty interesting. It's not bad, either, if you can accept the strangeness of, like, everything. Might be worth a watch.
*Rock-a-Doodle: I wanted to see this so badly when I was a kid, but just didn't get around to it until now. It's... well, it's a typical cracktastic Don Bluth film. But most of the music is rather good (with a couple of exceptions), which is surprising because I normally find songs in Don Bluth films are pretty bad. I think I'd have liked it better as a kid, but I still enjoyed it.
*An American Tail: Another Don Bluth film that I wanted to see as a kid but didn't. This one isn't as good as I'd hoped it would be. I think if it'd been more serious - had an atmosphere more like Secret of Nimh rather than what it turned out to be, it could have been great. The first few scenes were awesome. But after a while it just became a little too... silly.
*Wir sind die Nacht/We are the night: Trashy German vampire movie. Well, actually, it's not that bad. In some ways, it's pretty good; there were some aspects of some of the characters that I really liked. (Let me tell you about Charlotte...) Also, if you're looking for femslashy vibes, you'll find some here, which I wasn't expecting but found a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
*Uzumaki: One of the worst films I've ever had the displeasure of watching. Bad writing, bad acting, bad filming, bad everything. And that's just tragic, because Junji Ito's Uzumaki is a great horror manga, and a film version could be amazingly creeptastic in the right hands. Though when I really think about it, it'd be better off as television (provided the budget allowed for it). Or - even better - as an anime, if it happened to be well-done. But this film version... ugh, don't watch it, it isn't even bad in a funny way; it's just dull.
