Okay, so I'm up to ch 3.2 in Valiant Hearts. Hoo boy.
So, we finally learned what Freddie's deal is. I wonder if it would have had more impact if we'd learned it a little earlier; up until this point there wasn't really much information on that, so he just came off as kind of having a chip on his shoulder. On the other hand, I don't know where you'd fit that in, aside from re-arranging stuff. Narratively, it works, the situation paralleling with him getting trapped under the fort after it explodes, but... anyway.
Some of the diaries that get unlocked, though... I was very D: when I read Anna's and that "Karl is dead" stuff. I'm pretty sure he isn't dead, because I saw some of the subchapter header images when I was scrolling through and he's in one of them, but until I saw that, it was like - I don't know. D: best describes it. Even though at this point we don't really have that much to go by as far as Karl's personality is concerned, he's growing on me a little. He's like a damsel in distress, always falling into trouble and needing to be rescued. Or... doing stupid shit and getting into trouble. (Really, dude, trying to escape from the POW camp was probably a bad idea. Though understandable considering the letter he received. Perhaps.)
Must say though, I'm starting to really, really want to write some Anna & Karl friendship fic. There's plenty of open space to fic some scenes in when Karl's at the camp and Anna's taking care of him. And with the way he gets around pretty easily when you have to play as him, it looks like she patched him up really well, eh? I can't decide between starting to write it on my lunch break, or waiting a while. Because some useful information might pop up, especially since I just finished rescuing Anna's father, but on the other hand who knows. ... Well, I guess I could start figuring out how I want to outline this thing, at least.
Seriously though, this game is the best fifteen bucks I've spent in quite a while.
