I'm really enjoying reading The Storm of War (that WWII nonfiction I mentioned a few entries ago) but man... one disappointing thing is that it doesn't discuss the Canadian effort much. And I get why - it's an overview book, and you can't possibly go into detail about every little thing - but it's just rather frustrating that whenever Canadians show up, we get maybe one sentence, and that's it.

"Oh and by the way, a bunch of Canucks got slaughtered, and in hindsight Dieppe really was a terrible idea, wasn't it"

... I might be rephrasing just a tad. But you get the gist.

And very little about the liberation of the Netherlands, which is very disappointing.

Obviously the solution here is to seek out books that specifically deal with what the Canadians did, but I'm still going to grump about it a little.

It doesn't matter what it's about, we're always forgotten in everything. :C Like c'mon guys, we're second largest country in the world. How can you not have given us a damn page?

Oh! And when we do get mentioned, it's sometimes not even correct info. We never seem to win. D:

Worth grumping about, certainly. I always end up surprised if any overview discussions of D-Day mention a beach other than Omaha, let alone refer to Juno by name.

(Though it does remind me that I really need to dust off my WIP about the Canadian Caper, which I started writing because I loathed Argo so much that it prompted me to start writing grudge-fic.)
