And we won't wait, and we won't wait
Oct. 8th, 2014 08:04 pmLately, people have been talking about the Yuletide exchange. Part of me really wants to participate - Anno 1790 is one of the fandoms available, as well as a bunch of other small fandoms that I like - but realistically, I don't think I'll be able to do it. I never have enough time at that time of year, and -- let's be honest. I am not sure that I would be able to write a 1000-word fic for a fandom that I've never written in before. Certainly not anything good, anyway. So I might poke around and see if anyone's requesting Anno1790 and if so did they write a letter, since maybe I can get some inspiration for a treat for them or something, but otherwise... no Yuletide for me.
But that doesn't rule out exchanges for this year. There was a Hetalia exchange around Christmas last year, so hopefully there will be one this year. My experience with tumblr-based Hetalia exchanges has been varied, but writing fic to prompts is always fun, and I am completely confident that even if I end up feeling uninspired, I can pull a 1000-word Hetalia fic out of my ass, no problem. So, hopefully there'll be something like that. And even if there isn't, the APH anon meme usually does something at Christmas - last year there was a mini request meme - so regardless... there'll probably be something.
To say nothing of stuff that isn't written for other people. I've been in a very Norway/England mood lately, and there's part of me that kind of wants to write something to do with the whole Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square thing, even though there are some very nice fics with that already. So maybe I'll do something with that, or at least something set around that time of year, because I like Norway/England when it's comfortable and sweet. (... Though I also like them when there's sarcasm and shoving and hair-pulling. But, y'know.)
Lately I've been reading about WWII - The Storm of War by Andrew Roberts - and, wow. Man. It's just so frustrating when I realize just how inadequate my education was, and how there are so many things that I know hardly anything about. I feel like I'm constantly playing catch-up. Oh, well. On the upside, this book is a really engrossing read; I can hardly put it down. And though by necessity it's rather brief about some things, I'm making note of parts I want to read more about later.
After that's done, I'll probably read some Jo Nesbø - a recent thread on f_fa reminded me that though I have all his novels (except the most recent one), I haven't read all of them. So, I need to pick through them and figure out which one to read next. It's a little frustrating that I had to read them out of order, but considering they were published in English in a completely nonsensical order, I think I'm excused. The fifth book in the series was published in 2005. The first book was published in 2012. ???? Then again, the first one, The Bat, is kind of... not as good as the other ones, uh. It's very obviously an early novel. Anyway, I really want to read his most recent novel, The Son, because if Headhunters is anything to go by, his stand-alone novels are good. But it isn't out in paperback yet... I'll wait.
This week is exhausting. Tons of work that needs to get done - I'm actually still playing catch-up from my vacation - and then Thanksgiving coming up. Man. I've decided I'm going to try to work extra hours just to get all of this done.
... I think my projects (all of them) are going to have to be put on hold until after Halloween. Oh, well.

Date: 2014-10-11 01:53 am (UTC)I have too many Hetalia WIPs to finish before I could justify signing up for a canon exchange, but perhaps there'll be one next year. I was feeling pretty uninspired around the time of Remix Redux this past year, but Hetalia qualifies for that exchange, if it runs next year.

Date: 2014-10-11 03:25 am (UTC)Hopefully you'll be able to get through some of those WIPs and take part in something Hetalia-related next year! /o/ I've never written/requested Hetalia in a multi-fandom exchange... I think I'd be less likely to write that series in such a situation, because from what I've seen from previous exchanges and ones that are currently going (like trickortreatex) the characters that I write aren't usually the ones that are requested. :Va
