Okay, seeing Kainoliero's enthusiasm made me decide to hold a second Nordipalooza Fest after all. ;) The good thing about this is that most of the groundwork is already in place after last year's [livejournal.com profile] nordipalooza. But if I want to run it at the same time as last year, I need to start working fast! There are a few things that need to be tweaked if I'm going to do this.

I have some ideas of what I want to do with it this year, but I need to think them out a little more.

I'm thinking of making two major changes.

*First: Fanfic requirements will be either: A. respond to 2 prompts of your choice, writing one fic each with 500-word minimum, or B. respond to 1 prompt, writing fic of minimum 1k words. Previously, to do a fic with 1000-word minimum, you had to pick two prompts and combine them. I think this way, it will be easier for people to write something a bit longer, with more substance, without stressing out about how to do it.

But I don't know what a fanart equivalent for the "pick 1 prompt and do 1000 words" would be. Maybe "pick 1 prompt, draw something, and it must be coloured"? Whereas the "2 prompts 500 words each" equivalent would be "pick 2 prompts, do 1 drawing for each, and they don't have to be coloured".

*Secondly: The timeline. Last time, we had an issue where the creating period wasn't long enough; people were worried that they wouldn't finish things on time, so I had to extend the deadline. This time, I want to try to avoid that problem by giving more time to make fanworks. Here's the schedule I might go with:

February 13th-24th: Signups are open (*close 5 AM on Feb 25)
February 28th: All prompts sent out by this date
March 1-April 5th: Writing/Drawing period
April 6th: Posting to the comm opens
April 14th: Last day to post (*closes at 5 AM April 15th)

That gives people a week and a half to sign up, a month and two weeks to write/draw (because you can post any time while posting is open; you don't have to post on April 6th if you aren't finished yet), and posting will be open for a week. That should be adequate, I think...?

---

The format for the prompts will probably be the same. 4 prompts, 2 characters per prompt, and 2 time periods per prompt (which are completely optional; you don't have to use them). Prompt lists will look like this:

1. Norway, Denmark - Rain [Optional: 1500s or 1800s]
2. Denmark, Iceland - Writing letters [Optional: 1600s or Modern]
3. Iceland, Finland - Coffee [Optional: 1900s or AU]
4. Denmark, Sweden - Borders [Optional: Viking Age or 1600s]

Character options would still be presented in list format. "Any Nordic" and "Any Nation or Non-Nation Character" would also be possible options in the character slots. This format seemed to work well last time, and it fits well with one of the goals of the fest, which is to try to write character duos you haven't written before, and work within the confines of a broad prompt. Unless anyone has a better suggestion that I really like, I don't think I'll change it.

I think everything else will be pretty much the same too, except that I'm going to change the signup form to include a part asking whether people will be drawing or writing, because that makes assigning prompts easier.

Other than that, everything will remain pretty much the same. I'm going to want to rewrite some parts of the guidelines/faq to make them simpler and streamline everything - right now they seem kind of tl;dr and I don't want people to get confused - but the content will be basically the same.

Anyway, that's kind of what I have in mind for this year's Nordipalooza Fest. Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas/suggestions? Or just a "Yeah, I'd like to do this" is fine too. I'm especially interested what people who did it last year think of the proposed changes for this year.

Hmm. I'm not an artist but idk, to me coloured vs. non-coloured art sounds very good. Overall I'm liking your new ideas and well, the only thing I can think of that I'd like to have changed about last year's Nordipalooza was the time frame, really.

I'm definitely in by the way!

No joke, I was just thinking about this fest the other day! (And I finally have time to comment too!)

Everything looks a-ok with me! I honestly have no idea if I can participate this time around because of work but knowing me, I'll end up doing it anyway since I can't ignore anything involving the Nordics. The extra time will definitely help though. It wasn't an issue with me last year but like I said before, with work and all, it will probably save me since Easter will be around corner in March. We'll see when the time comes! ;3;
