Make your voice break - Sing it out
Mar. 25th, 2011 04:11 pmToday was unusual in two minor, but notable ways.
1. I had a conversation with a stranger and did not panic. This hardly ever happens (both parts of it). Someone saw me reading my viking book on the bus and we ended up talking about medieval history and literature for a short while until he had to step off. It was very unusual, but nice. It's just strange to have that kind of interaction with someone I don't know, but I did like it. That might have to do with never having the opportunity to talk about that stuff offline, but, no matter.
2. I heard someone talking about APH while I was at the cafe. This is entirely unexpected because I live in a remote area and never ever ever would expect that there would be other fans around here. But sure enough, I heard someone mention that they would be going to a convention in the summer, and that they would be cosplaying as Denmark, and that the person they were talking to should come with them. So I listened to the conversation for a while, which was probably rude, but I couldn't help it. I was just so... surprised to hear it. To be honest, I wanted to go over and talk to those two, but interrupting the conversation would've been even more rude than just listening. Besides, they looked young, probably high school students. But, still.
... And to be honest, listening to that conversation made me feel a little bit jealous. I've never had the opportunity to go to a convention. One of my friends recently suggested that we go together to one in June 2012, but the possibility of it happening is so remote that I will try not to even think on it, even though it would be so nice if it could happen.
Other than that, nothing has been going on. Still job-searching, still trying to find time to write. Life is slow, I guess, but there's nothing wrong with that. I received a couple of books in the mail today and can hardly wait to read them. It's always such a nice feeling, having new books to read.
Oh, and I've decided to learn to knit socks. I'd intended to learn to do colourwork first, because Bice says I should, buuuuut... I'll do that later. A place in town opened recently that sells nice yarn and whatnot, and when I saw some of their sock-yarns I just got so excited to try it, so there it is!

Date: 2011-03-25 10:48 pm (UTC)... Though actually I expect MLP cons would be rather dull if one isn't into collecting the toys. :Va Though perhaps it'll change a bit now because of G4/FIM, idek.

Date: 2011-03-25 11:03 pm (UTC)Come to think of it, there's probably a Canadian version too, but eh.
(To be honest, in reality... though it might be fun to go to a pony con, the collectors' side of pony fandom frustrates/annoys me so much that I would be very reluctant to go to one of those things. Oh lord, you don't even know.)

Date: 2011-03-25 11:06 pm (UTC)lmao i imagine the collectors might be terrible but think about custom workshops omg i bet those would be fascinating
omg why am i talking like i seriously want to customize my little ponies
oh lawd

Date: 2011-03-25 11:09 pm (UTC)But anyway yes custom workshops would be so cool. I've actually customized a pony before -- though a lot of it was just repainting, as I was unable/unwilling to do any rehairing at the time. It's actually a lot of fun, and in some ways easier than it looks (... and in some ways harder than it looks)

Date: 2011-03-25 11:12 pm (UTC)i think it'd be a lot of fun to do, learning about hair and stuff fjkdls ugh the internet makes me love crafts

Date: 2011-03-25 11:13 pm (UTC)We should get together and customize some ponies. :)a I wouldn't be bothered to rehair, but painting them is fun, ahhh <3

Date: 2011-03-25 11:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, I figure going alone would be kinda' boring. But going with Ellie would be amazing! [/clings to]

Date: 2011-03-25 11:46 pm (UTC)i'd love to go to a con properly one day too, it looks so fun. COME TO MELBOURNE
alternatively there's always that finland option but i think i'm gonna miss you by a few months if/when i go;;

Date: 2011-03-25 11:54 pm (UTC)[/goes to Melbourne ;p ]
Ahh I'd love to go to you, but the Finland option is probably a no-go as far as cons go. ;p
The con that my friend suggested I go to with her is in Sweden. Maybe you should go to that one. ;p

Date: 2011-03-26 03:44 am (UTC)hetalia is everywhere
but honsetly I can't blame you for listening in, haha I would've too. I've never been to an anime-ish con, just the one we have here centered around more Western-nerdy stuff (still, with a dash of animanga). I think you should try to go to a con if you ever have the chance! ;3; I mean having such a high concentration of nerdery in one contained area generates the most wonderful and delightful atmosphere, it's like rainbows and sunshine and kittens all rolled up into one amazing happy feeling. or maybe I should say it feels like landing on one's home planet and being all omg i'm not alone!! ლ(ಥヮಥლ). or maybe i'm just so deprived of nerdy outlets that I feel too many feelings about this kind of stuff WHO KNOWS
good luck with the job searching!!
it's never too early to learn how to knit socks! I mean, y'gotta admit that it's a crazy practical skill.
and if you lose a sock in the laundry, you can just knit another one! (^▽^)

Date: 2011-03-26 05:09 pm (UTC)I CAN'T ESCAPE HETALIA EVEN IN MY OFFLINE LIFE. Not that I mind.
/creeps all over
I probably won't have a chance to go to any cons any time soon, but... maybe things will change. I'd like to do it at least once because it sounds fun, yeah.
[/knitknitknits socks like a mofo] [/whoooo]

Date: 2011-03-26 08:52 am (UTC)It would have been nice to talk to them -- considering how rare they are.
though there's the chance they may be the LOL RANDUM type of fan but in case they are it's not like you'll see them all that often anywayI haven't been to a con in years. The last time was when I accompanied a cosplaying friend. It's more mainstream now but probably boring to go there alone.

Date: 2011-03-26 06:16 pm (UTC)Most likely they would have been all LOL RANDOM but on the other hand, maybe not. But ahhh I was just too shy, so oh well ;3;
