Today I came home to the news that Delicious.com will be shutting down. So, after a moment of panic, I immediately began transferring everything over to Diigo. My personal stuff... and the indexes.
What this means for the APH Baltic Index and Nordic Index: Updates will be halted until everything transfers over. I don't know how long it will take for everything to be imported; imports are going really slowly right now due to transfers from Delicious, so it might be a few days. However, what does exist of the indexes on Delicious still works for the time being. I'll just have to catch up when everything has gone through.
So that's the state of that.
In other news, I began writing something recently. Something new. I thought that I wouldn't be writing anything until the new year, let alone starting an entirely new fic, but I guess I can get quite a bit done just flyin' by the seat of my pants if I'm motivated enough. I hope the motivation keeps up - I really, really want to finish this by Christmas Eve; otherwise it won't be posted publicly.
This new fic involves Australia, and that's a right challenge, it is. It isn't the only time I've tried to write him - there was something I scribbled up a couple of weeks ago - but it's the first time I've actually managed to get beyond one paragraph with that character, so even though I'm having difficulty with it, I have high hopes. But it certainly is difficult. When writing, I realized (and not for the first time) that man, I really don't know anything about this country, aside from "crazy wildlife and convicts and adorable accents". (... I know a tiny bit more than that, but just a tiny bit.)
It's not just that one, though - there are a ton of places, a ton of historical periods, a ton of things that I know absolutely nothing about. It's so frustrating! I want to know everything. But there are just too many things to know about the world - it's impossible.
... Oh, well. I guess the only thing I can do is just keep going and keep learning. The other day, I decided that in January (when I have more time) I'd do some reading about Canada's involvement in WWI and II, because I recently realized I'd forgotten what little I learned about that in high school. So, why not also read something about the involvement of the other Commonwealth nations while I'm at it, eh? Especially our good ol' cousins down under. Yeah, that sounds like a good enough place to start.
[EDIT Dec 17] It seems that Yahoo will not be shutting down Delicious and will possibly be selling it instead. I'm going to be cautiously optimistic for the time being. However, indexing will still halt for a while, until more information is out.

I'm sure once everything has transferred, it'll be running smoothly, but for the time being I do feel a little bit panicked, not gonna' lie.
I've heard of that Transformative Works thing, but I don't really know anything about it. :|a Setting up a Delicious clone explicitly for fandom would, I think, be ideal for kink meme indexes etc, provided that the clone would be stable and run properly. Hmmm.

I think I will be able to finish it in time. But whether it will be good or not, I really don't know xD I have no idea what I'm doing with this character! Since he has like... no canon... I have to make everything up. And normally I'd just base it off other people's interpretations but I have read a few fics with him and I don't like the way those people wrote him so I have to figure everything out myself, ahhhh.
Oh and also, it's nice to hear from you <3 Are you on your christmas break yet?
