Well. My plans for the day totally didn't turn out the way I had thought they would. I'd originally intended to be productive. You know, clean the house, get outside... haha, it totally did not happen. But that's all right. I can do some of that tomorrow.

One thing I did do today, though, was do a bloody epic roleplay thread with a friend. And by "epic" I mean super-long. Yessss. That always feels so good. Stretched the page all to hell. It even got a mention in one of those "what are you stalking" threads, and that's the first time that ever happened. Man. Totally ace. And I think I really, really have my voice for Poland down, like really. That makes me happy.

Aside from that, I watched a few more eps of Saiyuki, and squee'd over Hakkai, as per usual. So in short, it was a good day for dumb frivolous things, but not exactly a good day to get anything productive done. I should... try to remedy that tomorrow. I do have plans to go out and get various errands done, but aside from that I should probably wash the floor or something. Sigh. Siiiiiiiigh. And I need to e-mail some people, and so on, and so forth. It never ends!

well, 30+ episodes in and I still like it, so that's good.

I'd been mostly watching the dub until now, because the subs were illegible. But now I can read them, so I switched to sub, and man... it's kind of jarring, hearing the original voices now. Probably just because I got used to the dub voices - which weren't all that bad really; they sucked at first but eventually got better. At first I hated Hakkai's dub voice - he just didn't compare at all to the original - but eventually I started to kind of like it... the English VA's interpretation is not as cute or as charming, but it still seems to work, somehow. I like that.

Other than that, not much commentary. I can see why people would say that "the whole series is filler", pff. The plot's a little thin. But it's brightly-coloured and entertaining and stupid and there's a lot of ass-kicking involved and I can't get enough of Goku and Gojyo insulting each other even though it's the same damn thing every time, so... yeahhh. 8D

Gods, I don't think I watched that far, though I remember one episode (or maybe it was an arc) where there were basically four women to match with each one in the group and in the end all the women died and it was all emo and sad. Or something like that.

I've not heard the dub before, but I am quite fond of Hakkai's voice. I've watched some of the voice actor's other stuff, I like his voice.

You know, I remember one discussion post on the Saiyuki comm a while back, "If Kougaiji and co. and go from their HQ to Sanzo and co. so many times within the series, why does it take Sanzo and co. so long to reach their HQ?" I think my favourite answer is a tie between "They are four bachelors, you think they'll ask for directions?" and "Hakkai actually can't read maps but no one dares to challenge him." :D

Well, I do think that the manga > the anime, but if you're enjoying it then why the hell not.

Ahhh yeah, I remember that episode. It was so emo, oh my gods. I remember at first (very first) being all "Gehhh I hope they don't stick around" because their appearance at the beginning of the episode reminded me of Schreint in Weiss Kreuz - who I happened to find extremely annoying.
... and then when at the end of the ep they all DIED I felt kind of bad for thinking that way, especially because the Goku-ish chick had started to grow on me (she was cute~). But anyway. ;p

I'm not terribly familiar with the other stuff that Hakkai's Japanese VA has done, except for in Slayers, which is where I knew him first. That's partly what drew me to Saiyuki - "Ohmygawd, Akira Ishida is in this? EEEE" Pfft. Oh, me. Hmm-mm, that's another series that I've only seen a tiny bit of....

You know, call me a dumb, but I never even thought of it. That thing with they meeting up so many times in the series. Pffff.
PERSONALLY, now that you have put it forth, I think it's a combination of both.
They don't ask for directions, AND Hakkai can't read maps, so they just keep getting lost and it takes forever. 8D Clearly.

I WILL CATCH UP ON THE MANGA EVENTUALLY. I just need to... acquire the volumes, haa. They don't sell them in the stores here anymore, so Amazon is the only way I can get it, saa. And it doesn't help that I always feel bad buying manga because it's expensive and it takes me so little time to read through it.

...I don't even remember Schreint hahaha. I remember there was one girl involved with Omi, and there was one scene where they were hanging out in a club or something then something happens and Omi is running out in his "costume" and I thought "wow, he changed clothes really fast, didn't he?"

I've not watched much of Slayers too. It was shown on TV many, many years back, but somehow I didn't catch it. Right now I can only remember Ishida Akira in Gundam Seed and Gintama (I love his role in this anime). I totally check out anime based on their voice actors too.

Haha, I didn't think of it either until that discussion post came up 8D. Well, logic never played a big part in anime. That reminds me, Minekura once wrote a short Christmas story where Jeep wanted a car navigator for Christmas, but sadly did not receive it due to its inability to speak. Poor thing.

Yes, I seldom buy manga because it is so expensive щ(ಡДಡ)щ Most of my Saiyuki manga is in Chinese which was cheap (like 1/10 the price of English ones, but possibly bootlegged), though some of them are in English or Japanese because I was desperate.

I remember Slayers being one of those series that I really wanted to get into, but I could not due to lack of resources available. My computer couldn't handre video, and I couldn't afford to buy the series outright (and would not have done so without seeing some of it first, anyway). So I listened to the music and watched a few eps of my friend's dubtapes and cringed at Xelloss's English voice because not only was it completely unlike Akira Ishida's sound, it was fucking awful.

Fff poor Jeep. So cute. You know, in the dub, it completely lacks Jeep's squeaking. I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED. AND WHILE WATCHING IT I MISSED IT SO MUCH. Also, I want a fucking dragon that turns into a jeep. That would be so goddamn cool. And I'd never have to pay for gas, ahhhhhh.

Over here, manga is usually around $10-15 CAD, which is just... it makes me reluctant because I read through it so quickly, and I rarely re-read it (maybe once every couple years), and even if a series is relatively short, it adds up so quickly. This is partly why I dropped out of reading it for so long, and why I never finished completing any of the series I did follow (aside from the fact that it became impossible to find in-store). Just couldn't afford it, argh.

I hardly remember anything about WK, really. So long ago, and I only watched it once.

I don't remember why I didn't get into Slayers... probably because I missed it when it was aired, and I had barely learnt how to go online at that point in time.

GASP how can they omit Jeep's squeaking? It's an integral and vital part of the series! They could have just kept the Japanese audio track for that :| ...No gas, but you'll probably have to feed it though. I love Jeep, it's sooo cuute~ Also, there are theories that Jeep was the Dragon King in the 500 years ago arc, and the Dragon King is fucking hot.

If I buy the Malay or Chinese version back home, it's only about RM4.50 (which is what, $1.50 CAD? The Malay versions are legal too, just less variety.) English versions cost about RM40-50 due to the exchange rate :| (wage for one whole day's work = 1 volume of manga lol). But yeah, reading manga is an expensive hobby.

... and it makes sense to be thoroughly confused about it. Because at the time I had no clue wtf was going on either. BUT. READING BACK. IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

Okay, here's what happened.
They're just talking about stuff, la la la.
And then Poland says Estonia isn't cool, and Estonia is like, "Aren't I just a bit cool?" and Poland is like "NO WAY".
So they argue about that for a while.

Then Estonia is like, "You don't have to be so blunt about it" and Poland is like, "How about no". So again they argue about that.

And then they both lost track of what they were arguing about.

And then Poland says that it's all Estonia's fault that they can't remember what they were arguing about, and they start arguing about that. And meanwhile they're also arguing about how Estonia can't make observations without being mocked, and how Poland will just do it whether or not Estonia likes it.

And then Poland mixes up his words and loses. But he claims take-backs and they argue about that.

And at this point I can't open the thread any more, but IIRC they were shouting at each other like whoa, and Estonia called Poland a girl, so Poland bitchslapped him, and then... yeahhhh. Fighting and ball-kicking and telling each other to suck you-know-what.

TL;DR IT WAS ALL ONE BIG "NO U".
