Think I might start drinking tea. I like hot drinks and I'm trying to find an alternative to coffee, so that seems a likely candidate. Unfortunately for me I don't have any herbal teas at the moment. Plenty of green and earl grey, but it doesn't do to be drinking caffeinated stuff all the time. I'm trying to cut down on that.

I'm still not sure if I want to go to the department halloween party or not. Not gonna lie, thinking about it right now, I'm not all that thrilled. There are so many grad students, and I don't really know a lot of them, and I just... the thought of showing up, and having everyone be all, "Who are you?" is a bit much. But thinking rationally, surely some people in the two-year program will be there; not just all first years. So I think... maybe it'd be okay. Maybe what I'll do is throw on my costume, but not put on much makeup, go for a few hours then come back home. We'll see. I still haven't checked the address to see if it's in walking distance, sigh.

Today has been a little bit okay and a little bit fail. I went oot and got some groceries, which I really did need. I still feel kind of guilty for spending the money, though. I need to save everything that I can. Aside from that, I haven't really done anything. Siiiiigh. Well, tomorrow is Halloween, so at least things will be a bit more exciting.

Oh oh there's a way to pretty much decaffeinate tea if you like! You just go about making a regular cup, only you let the tea bag steep for thirty seconds, then dump out the water and fill it up again like regular. Apparently a huge percent of the caffeine in tea leaches out in the first, well, 30 seconds. :D

But then won't the tea be all weak? :( It seems like the best cup of tea is always the first cup.

Then again, all I drink are fruit teas~

I guess it might seem like that? I don't think I've noticed, it just reduces the tannin-bitterness. I've only done it with black teas though, and steeping it for about 5 minutes brings it to the perfect strength for me XD

Tea! Can I recommend rooibos leaves/bags? No caffeine in it, but it tastes either sweet or something closer to chai if that's not your thing.

Oh, most loose-leaf tea shops also have flavoured versions too (chocolate, strawberry, chocolate-strawberry dadhasdfshk, etc.). It all smells and tastes good in the end anyways.

Also, good luck with that Halloween party if you go. It might be awkward, but they are adults right? Not highly impressionable first-year undergrads.

The ECC Halloween party—I think almost all of the people you and I know will be there. I don't think it would be *that* awkward. I won't be there though, sorry!

Also today I carved a jack-o-lantern. I tried to make it winking but I think it was a dismal fail.

Oh, if only you hadn't mentioned that you're trying to cut back on your caffeine intake, otherwise I'd say "DRINK MASALA CHAI!" It's delicious, but if you boil it the ~traditional way it ends up containing more caffeine than regular teas (though if you use tea leaves rather than teabags, you also get a lot more antioxidants in your tea).

True! If you do try it, I recommend using ginger as your main spice. In my family we always put ginger in our chai, and it's delicious.
