Class and manuscripts and other stuff
Sep. 11th, 2009 02:01 amWell. Class today went all right. Better than I expected. I still don't remember a word of any of the readings that I did, so I'm going to give them a quick re-read this weekend I guess (or tomorrow perhaps) but for the most part I think I'm fine. I need to pick up speed with reading The Diviners though. I've been lazing my way through it. I've been lazy about reading in general, actually - I have a book I was reading though (that one on ancient warfare) that I haven't finished yet. Sigh.
I've decided that no matter what, I'm going to go to the school on every weekday, even the days on which I don't have school. This way, I think, I'll get some work done. My home is not conductive to a work environment because I am so easily distracted; it's best to remove myself from those distractions. So, I think I'm going to favour camping out in the ECC room, like I used to. I'm going to do that tomorrow, I think, before the Coffee Time, though I think I might spend most of the morning at home sleeping in a tiny bit and doing stuff.
Mnh, need to take care of boring adult things these next few days. Blahhhh. Well, it must be done. But aside from that, I think my weekend will be okay, aside from homework of course. I really want to go see "9" sometime this weekend, but I don't know if the crowd will have died down enough. Then again, if I get to the theatre early, waiting won't be a problem. Much like I did when I went to see "Coraline", I can bring a book or my fic notebook with me.
I was thinking about manuscripts today. Handwritten work, that is. I've mentioned this before - last year, I think - but there's something I find so absolutely cool about having things written on a physical page. The electronic world is efficient, but there's something about pens and ink and paper that is just... beautiful. Not to mention that (frustrating though it is from a textual editing standpoint) having every copy be slightly different is just so cool. There's something awesome about it, something that I can't really describe. Ah, well. Unlikely that we're going to be bringing manuscript culture back any time soon, hah.
What else.... eh. Today really was mostly blah. Scribbled up some drabbles, but I'm not satisfied with them. I've been very annoyed with my writing recently. I haven't put up any of the things I've been working on, so nobody can see, but recently everything seems very, hmm. Halted. And choppy. It's very annoying and I'm going to have to do my best to fix it, somehow. I guess in some ways I've just been so frustrated with everything I've been producing. I hope this passes soon.

Date: 2009-09-11 08:53 am (UTC)I dunno, mate. I didn't take history in high school; we did not have it at my school. I didn't have a history class until university, and at that point, it was awesome. 8D

Date: 2009-09-11 06:35 pm (UTC)No matter what, eh? So even if like, Norway showed up in your house Friday morning looking rather hot? Or what about Finland?
Hey, manuscript culture, I'd totally be in on a revolution for bringing that back. The techno revolution for turning all books to electronic format and wanting to do away with paper copies makes me want to cry. Not that that's handwritten, but the physicality of having paper and a bound book... I refuse to give that up. Handwritten is wonderful too. *cue archaeology squee* There's something far more interesting and powerful about running your hands over something another person wrote or carved into stone.
*hugs* Try not to stress so much about your writing, you'll get your groove back and the less you fret the easier it'll be~!
I feel like I had something else to say, but it got lost somewhere between "~~~" and "damn this is a tasty muffin". Oh well, have some hearts instead~!

Date: 2009-09-11 11:27 pm (UTC)I don't like the idea of doing away with paper copies. I don't trust electronics; there's always the possibility of losing things. True, paper gets lost as well, but I find great security in having a physical copy of something.
As for my writing, let's not get into that. ;p Though I do hope I'll stop feeling grumpy about it soon.
