[Fanfic excerpt] Untitled - draft
May. 14th, 2009 02:52 amI can't sleep. Naturally I'm rather disgruntled about this.
To make myself feel better I typed up a somewhat lengthy excerpt from the beginning of the Swe/Nor story.
........
"It's more complicated than that. He cared about him." Denmark, Norway noticed, was giving him a sceptical look. He decided to try another approach. "Surely if you lost me you would be troubled for longer than a mere matter of weeks."
They stared at each other for a moment, Denmark looking baffled, Norway rather annoyed at his bafflement. Say yes, you bastard, he thought. Of course, it didn't matter. They had been together for so long that the thought of it ending was unthinkable - but then again, Sweden losing Finland had been unthinkable, too.
Denmark was the first to break the silence. "Yeah, sure, Nor," he said, grinning widely, dubious sincerity in his tone. "Sure," he repeated, turning back to his tea, while Norway silently smouldered with - what? Anger? "Look, all I'm saying is that Finland never was a great catch, if you know what I mean. Give it five, maybe ten years, and ol' Sverige will have himself another wifey."
At that point Norway ceased to argue. He downed his tea and the black stuff hit his gut with a bitterness oddly close to what he felt. There were no more words exchanged on that subject, and with little prodding he managed to get Denmark to ramble on about something else, while Norway listened in irritable silence.
.........
It was true, Norway thought as he walked. Some of the things Denmark had said that morning were undoubtedly true. Finland was attractive, no doubt, but he certainly wasn't a catch; his land was all snow, ice and lakes, inhabited by rather strange people - not to mention that Finland himself was rather strange, and at times it seemed he didn't have the brains that God gave a kitten. Still, there was no question that Sweden was fond of him beyond measure. Why else would he have fought to keep him?

Date: 2009-05-14 01:43 pm (UTC)Swe/Nor has so much RL backing to it, I'm surprised it isn't seen more often. (...or was that Nor/Swe AHAHa)

Date: 2009-05-14 02:51 pm (UTC)I know, right! I hardly see it at all. I mean, hell, I think I've read maybe, uh, two fics that had it. Very strange. It doesn't even face the problem some other Sweden pairings do - that of breaking up a couple - because history does it that for you so I dunno', man. But I'm really starting to like these two together, even though I've barely started, and I definitely think I'll be using it in the future; they go so well together
and it frees me up to match Finland with certain other peopleno subject
Date: 2009-05-14 08:09 pm (UTC)I almost feel bad for Sweden. Getting divorced so many times--!! ANYWAY uh yeah, I do like Swe/Nor for their dynamics, I mean. Sweden loves Norwegian culture and its natural beauty so much etc etc, downplays Swedish ("non-existent") culture, etc. He's so. Enamoured.
