Person A: PLZ HELP! What's the native language of Canada?
Person B: Complaining.

'struth! xD It's our national pastime. Well, aside from hockey, I mean. =p We complain about everything, from the weather to each other to our neighbours. La~

Today was MASSIVELY UNPRODUCTIVE. But I did get the laundry done. Saaaaaa, what is wrong with me? I'm so laaaazy.

OH. BUT SOMETHING EXCITING HAPPENED.

The fire alarm went off again. This was around, eh, 9 PM? Maybe? So I spazzed, because in an old building like this, it'd burn down quickly. Threw on my boots 'n coat and ran out. The neighbours came out too, with their cats in carriers. And someone called the fire department. And three fire trucks showed up! And because the door locks automatically I let the fire guys borrow my key to get into the building.

Only, er... there wasn't actually a fire. But the building REALLY STANK. Like, an electrical fire smell. Also kind of like rotten eggs. Pretty bad. It still kind of smells, actually.

There's something wrong with the boiler; for some reason it's making the fire alarm go off. It needs to get checked, and that will probably happen tomorrow. But in the meantime, the boiler is turned off, and my apartment is FREEZING. I'm going to have to go heavy-duty with the winter gear on the bed tonight. Wool blankets and down quilts and fuzzy socks and everything. Yeesh.

Mm, tomorrow is the first lecture on Oryx and Crake in the intro class, and I'm really excited about it.

*drums fingers* I want to go see the Coraline movie (if it's in Saskatoon, haven't checked yet) but I haven't read the book yet. Derp. Should probably do that before I see the movie. Saaaa.

I'd see the movie first. I found out recently that that's really the best way, because you can then enjoy the movie on it's own merits, without saying 'oh no they left out this and that'. And then when you read the book, there are surprise extra bits!

Neil Gaiman himself raves about Coraline, though, so even though I'm sure they had to make cuts, they've obviously adapted it faithfully. I can't wait to see it myself (and read it, haha).

I find movie first, then book is a pretty good way to go, if you can manage it; second best to read the book a couple of months before the movie, so that it's fresh enough in your mind that you're excited about what they get right, but not so fresh that every little thing that's different rubs you the wrong way. XD
