Mmnnneh.
Find myself wanting to write more. Wtf. Fortunately, this time I don't have any specific ideas, so I don't feel like I've been hit with a brick and have to write OMGNOW, though I do have a historical thing to base it on when I do write.
Basically, I'm kicking around the idea of writing something related to Baltic fellowship. Reading about the Singing Revolution is what put this idea into my head. I'm not sure what particularly I'll write, but the subject is on my to-do list, anyway.
I'm especially intrigued by Baltic Way. I found this vid of it on youtube. Pretty cool.
I've come across some other stuff as well, from 2007, which is occasionally referred to as Baltic Way, but isn't quite the same thing. 's more like a series of small demonstrations from the other two countries in support of Estonia (like this vid for example). The 2007 stuff I came across was probably a response to Bronze Night, though I haven't done too much looking around just yet so I can't be sure. But it's all very interesting to me and I want to look into it more later.
The very thought of a chain of people stretching across three countries is just... Well, it's pretty amazing. This is probably partly because I can hardly wrap my head around it. I think of countries in Canadian terms. Even our provinces are enormous. I mean, you could fit all three of the Baltic States as a whole into Alberta three times, and you'd probably still have enough room left after that to squeeze in a fourth Estonia. Jesus.
Even so, it's still incredibly impressive.
And then, when I think of this, and the stuff from 2007 - if the 2007 videos are indeed a response to Bronze Night - I just... I don't know. It makes me feel something, but I don't know what. The only word I can think of is amazed, really. Such resistance, and such displays of fellowship....
And to think, these countries, these people have been through so much crap and now they're independent. Strong and independent, and working together.
What is it I feel? Amazed? Inspired? Who knows. I don't understand myself, at all.
And it's just so weird. I've only started learning about these things just recently. I know nothing, I know absolutely nothing; I'm just scratching the surface, just barely, and it'll be ages before I'm able to do any in-depth reading about anything at all to do with eastern Europe, or anything specific, and I just... I don't know.
Uh. Whoa. I got way off track. Okay, my point is, reading about this stuff makes me want to write Hetalia fanfiction about Baltic fellowship + the struggle for independence. There we go.

Fanfics about the Baltic states are always great! I want to read more about them, real information -and- fanfics, but there isn't much to be found in my library. :/
